Simple Move Question

My mother lives in an apartment complex with a Direct TV dish on the roof which serves all the apartments in the complex. She has one HD DVR connected to a high-definition LED Sony TV. She is moving about one mile away to a different apartment complex which also has a central dish on the roof to serve all of those apartments. In order to move her service can I simply unplug her power and the coaxial cable from the “old” apartment and then take these components to the “new” apartment, connect the coaxial cable and power and then reset the receiver? I hope it’s this simple and that I don’t need a technician or need to call technical service. Any information will be much appreciated.

No, it's not that simple. Apartment complexes are not serviced by DirecTV directly, but by "Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU)" providers. Your mother needs to contact the landlord at the new complex to find out what company services their DirecTV equipment, and whether her HD-DVR is supported, and then contact that company. She also needs to have her account address changed.

One assumes that the old MDU will want their receiver back and the new MDU will provide their own receiver.
