When I try to update the software on the h21-200 receiver it just reloads the x434d software instead of the new x43a8 software needed for the mrv. Is there a way to update correctly?

Wait for your receiver to be authorized by DirecTV to get the update. Forcing an update before then only gets you, as you have discovered, the old version. Updates generally roll out from West to East and could take a few weeks to reach everyone. When it is available to you you'll get it automatically, with no action required on your part.

You'll frequently see suggestions from well meaning users urging a forced update. The advice is ill founded and is a result of a lack of understanding as to how the update system works. Of course, every time there is an update there is a flurry of 'how can I get the update?' posts, and the answer is always the same, 'patience'.

Any idea on when the update will make it to the southeast? I signed up with DirecTV mainly for the MRV. The salesperson I spoke with never mentioned the beta testing applied only to customers with multiple DVRs. The waiting is becoming extremely frustrating.

My HD DVR in the living room has the update for the multi-room option. However my receiver in my bedroom which is eligible has yet to get the update.

Is it common to have one update well ahead of the other?

There is no pattern as to when software updates for different model boxes will load. The update for your receiver was originally released the same day as the one for your DVR, but was halted for some reason, but it's flowing now.

I have had the software update on my HD DVR's for 6 weeks now. I have been waiting patiently for my H21 to download it but it hasn't. I'm in San Diego.

I received a nother new update this morning. 0x3a8 for the HR20. It appears to fix the fastforward bug when watching a recording from a remote DVR. Startup of a show was a little sluggish at first.

It's the same scenario for me. My H21 last updated on 10/1. However, my DVR has the current update. Kind of a moot point for beta testing only having just the DVR have the update.
