Tailgating with standard d-12 box
I want to take one of my D-12 standard boxes to tailgate at Husker football games. My home has the 5LNB swm dish. I have acquired what I believe is a 3LNB slimline dish that is not swm. It had four coax hooked to the lnb when I removed it. My question is, if I have my information correct is which of the four coax recepticles do I hook my coax to the run it to my d-12 box. I am also assuming since this dish was located and working only 2mi. from my home that is already set correctly as long as I mount it on my tripod true and level and point it in the right direction that I should be in business. I have also downloaded the dishpointer app for iphone to help find the satelites. Is there something I'm missing? All help would be appreciated.

1. It doesn't matter which of the LNB's four outputs you use. They're identical.
2. Pretty good assumption. And with the D12 SD Receiver, you only need to focus on receiving the 101ºW SD satellite. But realize that your Omaha local SD channels are beamed from the 119ºW satellite, which can't be received on the 3-LNB Slimline. You would need a 5-LNB Slimline to get those channels.
3. Dishpointer is a great resource. If you have a Smartphone, check out their App that lets you see where the satellites are located in the sky using the phones camera, GPS and compass.

Thanks for your reply. I'm gonna do a dry run in my front yard on Tuesday. Wish me luck.

Lets see.....$200.00+ for tickets to a game, $20.00 to $50.00 for gas, $100.00+ for beer, chips, hot dogs etc, round up the family, a few friends go to statium, setup sat dish, bbq and watch 'the game' on sat in parking lot? (Which has not yet even started). Whats wrong with this picture.

That's about the same it would cost to get Directv's NFL package. No wonder the new subscribers are knocking down the door to get the NFL free.
Of course, the DTV deal lasts all year and you don't have to align the dish every time.

Just wanted to let you know that setting up the satellite was a breeze. Had it working in less than five minutes just using the box and audible tone. I've got some more questions for you, but just wanted to let you know it worked. Thanks for your helpful response.

Andy, I assume you realize that the Slimline dish is overkill for the D12 because the D12 is SD only? If you find the Slimline to be big and bulky, a simple round dish will get the same signal in a much smaller and easier to align package. Of course a 5 minute setup might be some kind of record so if you're happy leave it be.

I realize that now that I gained more knowledge from everybody here. The dish I have was free that's why I'm using it. Setup was almost as easy at the game. Used my dishpointer ar app on my iphone and had it working in no time. I appreciate everybodies response.

Thinking of changing dishes, as I would like to get local channels also. If I've done my homework correct I believe that a Phase III dish should work. Am I correct?

Yes, it would. But if you are ever thinking of getting an HD receiver for tailgating, you would need a slimline 5.
