TCL TV trying to pair the DIRECTV universal Remote?

I have a new TCL  tv model  43S435 and a  DIRECTV  reciever HR24-100 and the universal remote RC66RX

I have used every code available  that is listed on the internet but no volume or on off for the TCL TV.

So I have 2 questions

1st, is the  remote to be used in the IR or RF mode with this reciever and this TV?

2nd when programming the TV do I have to move the slide button  from DIRECTV over to TV  position to program the TV?

My TCL tv model is not listed in the DirecTV menu to choose from , so I used  i used the remote to find the codes until the entire code list was exhausted and the on screen said it could not be programmed.

   Any tips will be appreciated.

You'll find lots of posts about TCL TVs in the forum.

You need to be in IR.

Just a bit of background. TCL TVs are actually from several different manufacturers and often use a completely different code set. Several people have had success selecting Vizio as the manufacturer.

It's also possible that the TV is too new to have the codeset in the remote. The newer RC73 might have the correct codeset.

Yes the TV is IR - in fact I am pretty sure all TVs are IR. The HR24 is IR also. '

When you use any directv remote the TV control is always IR even if the receiver is RF.

Very good to know that I just used my RC66rx control and went thru the Vizio codes and the Hinense codes and nothing worked  did it all on the IR mode.

Used the rc73 control and I guess it is always set to IR and it would not accept any code  for the Vizio or Hiense  just attached a message saying your tv cannot be programmed. Thank you

Hey@BUD501! Let's get your remote programmed. Thanks for the assist @TexasBrit!

Please look at are remote control code look up tool for more codes.

Below is the most common way to program a Genie remote.

  1. Point the remote at your Genie HD DVR, Genie Mini, or Wireless Genie Mini.
  2. Press and hold the MUTE and ENTER buttons. Stop when the green light at the top of the remote blinks twice.
  3. When the TV screen displays Applying IR/RF setup, you are in RF mode and ready to program the remote.
  4. Power on the device you want your remote to control.
  5. Press MENU on your remote.
  6. Select Settings Remote Control > Program Remote.
  7. Select the device you wish to control with the remote.
  8. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete programming.

If these steps don’t work for you, here's more ways to program your remote to your TV. Please let us know it this helps.

@BUD501

Your Remote is too OLD for your TV --That's why you can not find a code you need a RC73X --get one from D*tv 1-800-821-5000 or ebay or Amazon.

I do have the RC73 but not a RC73X remote.  the RC73 only brings up the on screen message  that the remote cannot be programmed.

The AT&T specialist that responded, I understand the instructions you listed, they are the same as  on screen  menu  instructions, please read my OP , those do not work and I am seeking additional advice on this . Thank you

Hey @BUD501!

Thank you for the clarification @TexasBrit! That sound like a great suggestion @goldw1800!

I also want to inform you that:

  • Our remote controls are guaranteed to program to your DIRECTV receiver.
  • They operate most devices; however your TV or other components may not be compatible with our remote control. (For example, use the remote that came with the TV.)

Please let us know if this helps. Thank you for being an AT&T customer!

To Update, I never got a code from TCL or Direct that would work in the RC66RX or RC73 remotes, I went thru all the TCL codes, RCA, Vizio and Hintense codes.

Still have to use 2 remotes  the TCL for on off of TV , cursor and volume. The Direct remote for HR25 receiver, is there a remote that is universal that would work these 2 units?

a suggestion --Look in the TV setting and turn on HDMI control --also in the HR24 menu -setting - display and set Hdmi control to on --that way when you turn on the receiver it will send a Control signal an turn the TV on as well as off --just a thought

The RC7X remotes will not work in RF on the HR24 receiver as the HR24 has the old RF protocols.
