television screen distorted

Yesterday when watching a recorded show our television screen got wavy and just a few colors remained.  (the television is only three years old)  turned off television and dvr no luck, reset dvr, still no luck.  the screen remained wavy and only pink and blue colors showed.  believing this was a television problem we unplugged and unhooked the dvr and tv, went out bought a new tv tonight hooked it all up and now the dvr keeps freezing, we can push the buttons on the front panel of dvr but no remote will work.  also, every now and then the colors will kind of go all green or bluish.  dvr problem---please help.  got tired of sitting on hold with directv
