The install that did not.

So, I called DTV to get this installed. 2 units (an R15 and an H20) would need to be upgraded. The CSR was very clear that I would be getting 2 HD devices... one to replace the H20 and 1 the R15. The tech showed up and of course this was not the case. Then the tech said that he did not have enough Deca's to do the job. And then he said that I after install, I would only be able to simultaneously tape 2 shows even though I have 3 DVR's.

So, I cancelled this. 7 hours of waiting and then... nothing. On the other hand, at least I have TV working and am now watching the Yankee game. It could have gone much worse.

BTW, if I decide to install this in the future, I will be able to record more than 2 show simultaneously, right?

Thanks

Mitch

You'll be able to record two channels on each HD-DVR and watch those recordings on any HD receiver or DVR anywhere on the network. Recordings will have to be initiated on the local DVR or any HD non DVR on the network. Right now, you can't use a DVR to set up a recording on another DVR, but you can view them that way.

The upgrade package should include swapping out the H20 for a network compatible H2x receiver. However, unless you pay extra to upgrade it to an HD DVR, the R15 would be swapped for an R16... the SWiM compatible equivalent of the R15. The WHDVR package does not include free upgrades of SD receivers to HD. If a CSR told you otherwise they were incorrect.

Thanks very much. I thought that would be very very limiting.

And thanks sungam. They were incorrect. I asked specifically if she was sure that it would be an upgrade to an HD DVR. She said yes. Then I went and explained it to my 13 year old. So it goes.

Thanks for the help.

The CSR's AND it appears some Tech Support personnel do not seem to be well trained on this offering.  See my thread "Whole-Home DVR Service OR A Loyal Customers Nightmare"   It has cost me double what they quored so far and after 4 hours and 45 minutes the installer left and it is still not working completely.
