Trouble with the HDTV on all channels

We have had service out before on digital waving or cut-out of part of the screen like we did before with another satellite company with digital cut-out but it isn't freezing that much. They haven't been able to find the problem. I have just discovered if I go from the HD station but if I change to the non-HD same channel, it stops. We haven't had service back out yet because we haven't had time to sit around waiting for someone. I just can't use HD part of the channel. Most channels like 2 have two settings, HD and non-HD. When you change channels or key in a channel, I start getting the digital squiggles so have to go up to the non-HD part of that channel and it doesn't happen there. This is a real pain in the neck.

Also, when the technician set up our TV's, they didn't program my bedroom remote to turn on and off or get volumn up or down on the remote as it says not programmed in. I have to get up and go to the TV to turn on or off or to raise or lower the volumn but the channel changer works. I don't have any instructions on how to program the remotes. Plus, the technician said he couldn't attach our VCR/DVD Recorder/Players to the TV because the connection is different than direct hookup to the Recorder with the converter box to the TV so I can program or watch tapes. Aren't they supposed to help you do that. I spoke to another company AT&T who is offering a much faster DSL hookup that is grouped with my phone, plus TV that doesn't have a satellite dish but it works off of fiber optics or something. I particularly need a much faster DSL and if the whole thing is cheaper bundling it and they said they'd hook up all of our recorders to the TV with the converter so we can program and watch video tapes or DSL. One TV has a DVD player and the unit we have on our main TV that we watch the most, I haven't figured out how to program it. I had programmed a show everyday at a certain time but don't know how to stop the auto programming. I just found the book so I'm going to have to try to figure it out. It is full so I manually program recording but haven't had time to watch them so I guess they just fall off when it runs out of room. I don't know whether I'm able to jump over shows or do I have to just watch the last show or am I watching the first show. I don't know anything about these Tivo things. We're mostly home except when we leave for dinner and possibly we don't get home soon enough to see the beginning of a show but if I had programmed it, which I don't know how to do yet, I could have the whole program. Anyway, main thing is the program with not being able to watch HD TV without the digital problem. Please advise.
