TV now goes black & silent nightly after hardware update last week

After the main receiver spent more than an hour offline doing a "hardware update" (it didn't ask to do) one night last week, now my TV goes black and loses sound every night. The receiver doesn't power off; to get the picture & sound back, I re-enter the channel # and then it works fine for the rest of the night. This has happened once every night since the hardware update last week (and yes, when the main receiver was updating it said hardware not software update-don't know how it can update its own hardware). Big deal since I sleep with the TV on and have been woken up every night when it goes silent. I've checked the Power Saving setting on the main receiver and on my bedroom receiver and both have Power Saving off. Help would be appreciated so I can sleep through the night again!

I have a similar symptom, it's like a "sleep mode" that gives me a blank screen. Happens several times a week, red button on Gemini needed. Genie 2 is ok, as evidenced by Genie Mini still working.

I believe related to lockup I get when netflix is paused and cannot get it back without going to home screen (Prime, Hulu do not do this)

@gregeusa

Your issue must be related to a newly-found bug in the Gemini receiver, which, as you know, was recently released and could definitely have some errors that need to be resolved by DIRECTV.

The OP may not have the Gemini receiver, and they seem to be having issues with the main Genie receiver, which could be caused by a bad hard drive, power issues, or something else. More info is needed by them as far as the receiver model, if they have more receivers, and if those other boxes (clients) are experiencing similar issues.

Nope, DTV never releases what is in their updates.

Main receiver/DVR model HR54-200

Bedroom receiver C61-500

I've pushed the red reset button and done power disconnect on both of these units multiple times. Having problems with these 2 units, the other 2 units aren't used much so not sure if they're having problems as well.

shannon, I'm not so naive that I believe that DTV would start listing what is in updates after all these years ;-)

I was looking for sites where people have figured out what has changed. Have not found any good sites yet.

Under System Info, it shows

Software: 0x1926, Fri 6/9, 3:22a

Scheduled Upgrade: Not Scheduled

Status: 0x1926, Service 2, Fri 6/9, 3:07a

There was an update last week that took place overnight in the midnight-1am time frame. Took nearly an hour and knocked out service on all sub-receivers, displayed "hardware update" message on sub receivers. The main receiver didn't even look like it had power at first because the TV screen displayed nothing from the receiver and there were no lights on the receiver-no blue, no red.  Checked the surge protector, power was on. Eventually the TV screen did come on and then it showed the same hardware update message as the sub receiver. That's when this issue started and now I have the problem of nightly black screen & no sound until I enter a channel #. That event last week doesn't match the timing of the last software update which was 2 months ago.
