Can you confirm that port 1900 is not blocked on your router?

Very thorough report...thank you.
Where you ever able to activate and use nomad?
How many devices have you tried to register?
The simplest approach to take is to use the following steps:
Perform a complete uninstall of the PC client,
Verify the following folder are removed:
     C:\Program Files\DIRECTV\Nomad
     C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Roaming\Nomad
Perform a 2 minute reset on the nomad (hold the reset button for at least 2 minutes)
Wait for the nomad to full restart to blue LEDs
Install the PC app and proceed with the activation
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

I have nerver been able to activate and use the nomad.   I followed your instructions but still received the original errors.

If I do a port test externally it fails.   Do I need to do a port forward on the Nomad IP Address?

After reviewing the Linksys E4200 manual please confirm the following:

1. Filter Multicast: Filter multicast needs to be disabled

2. Internet Access Policy: make sure there are no policies set to block traffic

3. Enable UPnP (please verify)

All steps confrimed.  I did have one policy in there for another machine but took it out for troubleshooting.

I saw in another thread, moving the nomad to the dmz in the router solved another user's registration problems. It might be worth giving that a shot.

That way you can eliminate the router blocking key ports as a possibility

Problem was solved by moving the Nomad into the DMZ.

Questions For Bruce:

  1. Can you provide the ports required for Nomad registration so that moving it to the DMZ isn't required?
  2. Once your devices are registerd can you move the Nomad out of DMZ for daily use?
  3. Is the NIC in the Nomad 100 or 1000?
  4. Can you share any enhancements coming down the pike?

Thanks Bruce and vhgt

I too am having the same problem getting my Nomad to register.  I have tried all the steps above with 2 different routers, E4200, DIR-655 and I still cannot get it to work.

Could there be something wrong with my DTV account? I see the service is active on my account, it was not at first so I called. This is very frustrating as it is a blackbox and there is no visibility to troubleshoot (for me that is). I spoke with case management last night, and they had no idea how to fix it other that the basic are the cable connected. They said they would escalate it to engineering. Are they able to do more advanced troubleshooting? I really want to get this to work soon!

I was able to get it to work.  I turned off my Windows Home Server and that seemed to do the trick.

I have the same problem! I have worked on it off and on for two weeks and still no ability to activate an iPad, iPhone 4, iTouch, or PC to the Nomad (note none have a ' in the name).  Below is my configuration and actions to attempt to get it to work.  Any help or other ideas are much appreciated because at this point the Nomad is a very expensive doorstop.

Setup

 DSL Router

Cisco E2000 Router running DD-WRT with multicast and UPnP

 Nomad MDR1R0-01 XAM1A1113A3787

DirecTV reciever R22/100 software 0x4d1 verified connected to the internet through apps and iPad controls/streaming

 Nomad service activated on account

I have reboot the Nomad multiple times (30 Second Reboots)

The Nomad has all three blue lights

I have deleted and reloaded the iDevice apps several times.

I have checked ports on the Nomad with a sniffer and opened ports 8082, 41524, 41531, and 52009 through the firewall without success.

I placed the Nomad in the DMZ on the E2000 router and placed the E2000 router in the DMZ - checking that I have ports open from the internet side - still unable to activate.

Errors:

I get "This iPhone has not bee added yet.  You have 5 available license(s).  You must be within your Home Network to activate your service."

Then when I press "Activate this IOS Device" I get "Activation Failure" You are missing one or more system requirements to activate your IPhone.  Please refer to the Quickstart Guide. Owner's Manual, or visit www.directv.com/nomad for more information. (AR/1001)."

I am out of ideas.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
