Unhappy With The Installers and Way Directv Handles The Whole Home Dvr
Well I have had a really horrible day dealing with these installers. First they come over and they didn't have a receiver that was compatable with the whole home dvr system. He calls another technition who comes over with another receiver that was used and full of programs on the dvr it is ovious a really used receiver. Directv calls me saying they can't activate the receiver so they send out another technition who brings a reciever over that isn't compatable. I have been wasting my time all day long with this.
Also another thing they told me is the powerline adapter doesn't work with the whole home dvr system which they never told me when I was ordering or before he was installing the system. Is there anyway to get the powerline adapter to work with this?

I can't imagine what receivers they were bringing that are not WHDVR compatible. There's only one current regular HD receiver that is, the H20. And if it was an HD DVR as you post suggests, they're all compatible with WHDVR.
Powerline will work for the Internet connection to a properly installed DirecTV installed WHDVR system, but not for a DIY setup. However, using it that way may not be in the DirecTV installer's playbook. For a WHDVR system you have to make sure that they install the necessary 'broadband' DECA module, which would normally connect to your Ethernet, and use the powerline adapter's Ethernet port instead.
However, if you're having them install WHDVR with the Internet Connection included, they should bring a coax connection to your router as part of the installation and eliminate the need for the powerline adapter altogether.

They weren't bringing over a hd dvr receiver just the standalone dvr that works with whole home dvr.
Alright so I do have the broadband deca module and I have the powerline adapter. So do I take the powerline ethernet and connect that to the deca module? How would I connect it to the receiver? Do I need a router for this?

I don't follow... there are two kinds of DIrecTV receivers; DVRs and non-DVRs. WHDVR requires at a minimum one HD DVR and one non-DVR HD receiver. So they were looking for one or the other; there is no third choice and there are no current HD DVRs that are not WHDVR compatible. Within those two categories there are nine different models and eight of the nine are WHDVR compatible.
The satellite coax connects it to the receiver; that's what the DECA is for, to bridge between your Ethernet and the coax. Presumably your network already includes a router.

I am trying to connect this receiver to my powerline adapater. I see the deca has the ethernet cable going to the receiver. The ethernet cable on my powerline adapater where would I hook that up to? Should I buy a router and hook that up to my powerline and then have the deca go to the router and then to the receiver?

this seems like you just need to call directv to have someone come out and set it up the correct way.

I see the deca has the ethernet cable going to the receiver.
That DECA must stay in place and connected as is, it cannot be used to connect your system to then Internet. A separate cable should be run from the main coax splitter to your router (if you don't have one, you need one). At that point a DECA or BB module connects to the coax and a Ethernet drop cable connects to your router. An independent 18 volt power supply is also required.
The suggestion to call Directv and ask them to return and install the TV Internet connection kit is good advice.

The broadband DECA I referred to is a separate DECA module not connected to any receiver. Once the broadband DECA is installed and connected to your Ethernet, then all of your receivers will have access to the internet. You can't connect to the internet by connecting your Ethernet to one particular receiver. As other's have suggested, if you don't have the separate broadband DECA you need to contact DirecTV to install one.
