Upgrading from HD receiver to HD-DVR receiver

I am thinking of upgrading from a regular HD receiver to a HD-DVR receiver in our rec room. I only have one coaxial cable from the slim-line dish into the rec room. Is there anyway I can send another signal down the same coax cable, to save me from running another one from outside through the house up to the second floor? I had just talked to a co-worker and he just moved into a new house and he said his setup has only one coax from the dish to inside the house. He was not really sure what all it goes through along the way though. He has several receviers and also two HD DVR's.

Thanks in advance!
