Upgrading to HR24 with DECA already installed
I thought I would share how to do this. I found that when I installed my HR24, the DECA adapter wasn't lighting up and DECA was no longer working.
If you are upgrading from a HR2x series DVRs with DECA already installed to a HR24, your DECA adapter will not work anymore. Since the HR24 has DECA already built in, the adapter needs to be removed.
Completely remove your DECA adapter (including network adapter). Plug the coax cable from your power adapter that was hooked into your DECA adapter directly into the HR24 satellite 1 coax insertion. Restart your HR24 using the red button on the front, press 02468 when hello comes on (to reinstall software) and that should be it. When everything is finished installing, your HR24 should work just as your previous DVR did in the DECA network

Can you share your experience with the HR24 so far? Is it more responsive, less laggy than your previous HR2x?
I had two HR21-700s installed as a brand new customer in January but was thinking of upgrading at least the living room receiver which we use most often.

One word of caution. If you spend money out of pocket to get a HR24 and that has a problem, Directv is under no obligation to replace it with a HR24, they will send the next one on the pile and it's likely to be a refurbished older model.

dcd,
Thanks for the info. Definitely something to consider. Still curious about the performance of the HR24 vs the HR21 though.

I don't have one but the reports I've read say it's better in every respect speed wise, smaller footprint, same 500 GB hard drive as HR23.

You can see a speed difference on youtube but I had my hr21 installed in Feb but have ordered (from online store - because I can choose the HR24 model) the HR24 for the larger hard drive space. I too was disappointed not to the latest dvr installed.

i might add it is never a good idea to force a software download the receivers automatically search for and download software as needed....forcing a downlaod can sometimes cause problems

I cannot believe this worked for my replacement legacy machine. I actually got a refurb for my HR22 but it was HR24/500. I thought, so what? I have sweated and sweated trying to get this one machine to be in my whole home list. My Genie and my other HR22 showed to each other but I could not get this machine to read it. TI help was no good. Push the Genie they must be told. We don't have those old machines anymore. But I finally got two to replace mine as they went out (2009) machines.Nervewracking experience but this website was the absolutely only one I found that solved my problem! Now I can go back to recording 9 programs on three DVRs. Thank you smotocol if you are still out there!

The HR24 is the only model that can't have an Ethernet cable connected to it when using Whole Home as it disconnects the built in Decca circuits.
