Using DECA - what should the network setup settings be?

I had an installer do the original install (sub-contractor).  Lately I've been getting an issue where when one of my receivers (HR22/100s and HR24/500) is d/ling it will throw a "There was a problem connection to the Internet. Please test your connection." error, where network access stops.  I have recently changed out my home router, and I'm not sure if the HRs should be getting an IP address from the router via the DECA or if they should be on a seperate static network IP configuration.

Thank you in advance.

since you got a new router, you need to reset your network settings.

First thing to try is resetting the DECA network....

Disconnect AC power from each DVR and Receiver

Disconnect power from the DECA Broadband Adapter (black DECA box)

Disconnect power from the SWM dish Power Inserter (do you know where yours is located)?

Reset your home network gateway/router

Wait a few minutes for the router to reset

Repower the SWM Power Inserter

Repower the DECA Broadband Adapter

Repower each DVR and Receiver

then do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults.   then  run the "connect now" command. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

Thank you peds48....going to have to wait until late tonight or tomorrow (too many things actively recording right now to take everything off-line).  I'm not sure I can drop the power for the SWM, as I'm in an condo building dishs on the roof, and I don't think the splitter in my access access panel, but I'll see what I can do on that end.  I did switch everything to static IPs outside of the DHCP range, but still had the problem.

WHDVR relies on a DHCP server to connect properly.  there should be no need to set static IP's on a properly configure system.  set your router to DHCP, let the router do the work.  and do the reset as posted.

Well, I went through the above process this morning.  Strangely enough, because I took my router off-line without printing out these instructions, I didn't the reset to defaults first before pulling the power on my receivers.  All but were fine, but one of my HR22s needed to go through the connect now process.  All needed to have the WHDVR names re-entered.  D/Ling now starting with the HR24, D/L speed is twice what it used to be on average (4-6 Mbs  vs. 2-3 Mbs).  12 minute show went without error, going to try something longer/larger next.

Thank you for your help so far!

Update:  HR24/500 while trying to D/L something longer threw the "problem connecting to the internet" error again.  Resetting it to defaults again to see if that fixes it.  No errors on my router.

Still throwing the error...I'm mat a loss, is there anyway to see the details on an HR24 or HR22 as to the alert behind the on-screen message?

Is your Whole Home system using a wireless adapter to connect to your router?  If so, dips in wireless will cause the problem you're having.

If you are hard wired with a coax to the router and a BB module then something isn't right.  The Internet connection should be rock solid.

To Peds48_installs:

I have WHDVR and internet connected to my HR21-100, HR22-100, and HR20-100.  I have a SWM 3 hookup.  There is no SWM dish power inserter (unless it is on the roof with the dish).  There is no DECA power insterter either.  I have DECA on all 3 DVR's.  My router is connected directly to the HR22-100 (bottom port) and the DECA is connected to the top port.  The HR21-100 has DECA connected to top port as well as the HR20-100.  After all I have read I don't know how this is possible.  This was hooked up by Directv installer in May 2010 when WHDVR was first made available to public.  I had router hooked to HR22-100 before that for Directv on Demand and Directv2PC.  When installer came to hook up WHDVR he did not make any change to that.  There is no cinema connection kit.  I used to have the old power line adapters until I got a 100 foot ethernet cable to hook direct.

Nope no Wireless.

HR24 - coax to swm

HR22-1 - DECA

HR22-2 - DECA

Router wired connection to DECO Broadband Connector

DECA Broadband Connector connected to SWM.

Also, it is almost feeling like the DECA broadband adapter is overheating and resetting...since WHDVR isn't effected, but the internet connection to the DVRs is.

we would gladly help you figure out your problem, you have a few.  but we ask you to please start your own post, as to not get all mix up with the original poster.  I will be watching out for your post.

is your power inserter inline with any of the receivers or BB DECA?  take a look at the picture to see if your set up looks like that

Just to help out a bit with Peds, sorry. The OP should also check and see if his DECA BB is connecting through the SWM power insert as well. With nothing but HD equipment in the system and also a DECA BB the power insert should be connected as the 2nd picture in Peds post above.

I don't have a power insterter, as least not one that I have access to.  I have a 4-way SWM that is fed from the buildings sat. connection.  Off that 4 port swm is 1x HR24/500, 2x HR22/100, and the Deca Broadband Adapter.

So you're in an apartment/condo building with shared DirecTV services?   That might be your problem.  I'm wondering if the SWM branch (coax) feeding your apartment is not properly isolated, causing the internet connection to get messed up with one of your neighbors.

Who maintains your building's DirecTV equipment?  You need to find out if they've properly isolated your portion of the satellite feed.
