he typical setup to record from your DirecTV Reciever/DVR to a VCR or DVD recorder is:

* DirecTV Receiver/DVR Audio/Video Output -> matching TV A/V Input (e.g. INPUT1)

* DirecTV Receiver/DVR A/V Output -> matching DVD/VCR Recorder A/V Input

* DVD/VCR Recorder A/V Output -> matching TV A/V Input (e.g. INPUT2)

Use the TV's Input/Source Selector Function to switch between the DirecTV receiver and VCR/DVD Recorder. To record on the DVD/VCR Recorder, select the DirecTV Receiver/DVR Input on the recorder, set the DirecTV Receiver/DVR to the channel to record (or play a recording to copy on a DVR), and start recording on your DVD/VCR Recorder.

Let's approach this step-by-step ....

1. Connect the 10-pin dongle cable to your Genie box

2. Connect the yellow RCA cable (video) to the VCR Video INPUT

3. Connect the red and white RCA cables (audio) to the VCR AUDIO INPUTs

4. Connect the VCR's Video OUT (yellow RCA cable) to your TV's matching Video INPUT

5. Connect the VCR's Audio OUT (red and white RCA cables) to your TV's matching Audio INPUTs

6. Select the correct Video INPUT on your VCR to view the DirecTV box

7. Select the correct Video INPUT on your TV to view the VCR

Now you should be able to record stuff from the DVR to your VCR.

What DVD/VCR Combo brand & model number do you have?

Can you post a photo of the rear panel?

1. Connect the 10-pin dongle cable to your Genie box

2. Connect the yellow RCA cable (video) to the VCR Video INPUT (far left, bottom jack)

3. Connect the red and white RCA cables (audio) to the VCR AUDIO INPUTs (far left, top jack. Your VCR has only one mono audio input.)

4. Connect the VCR's Video OUT (yellow RCA cable) to your TV's matching Video INPUT (second from the left, yellow jack)

5. Connect the VCR's Audio OUT (red and white RCA cables) to your TV's matching Audio INPUTs (second from the left, red & white jacks)

6. Select the correct Video INPUT on your VCR to view the DirecTV box

7. Select the correct Video INPUT on your TV to view the VCR

I can't really help you with that. You'll need to review your VCR and TV owner's manuals to learn how to set the VCR to the correct input for its AUX A/V INPUT (usually something like "L1" or "R1", for Line INPUT 1 or REAR INPUT 1). And how to set your TV to view the Composite Video INPUT where your VCR is connected.

I think I got it! I found the L1 or 2 that u were talking about and I had to change the definition to regular since the cables weren’t HD,
So if I want to record it won’t be HD just regular,
But I wanted to thank you for staying with me and showing me how to deal with it,. Thank u for ur patience since I’m an 70 old woman and don’t know too much,.
Kudos to you!
Thank you 😊

Right. Not HiDef. Old VCRs and DVDs were never HiDef.
