What model DVR do I get when I order an HD-DVR?
I simply cannot believe that this information is absolutely NOWHERE on the DTV site, but here I am.
I want to the HR24-500. I do not want anything else. There is absolutely no way I can verify that, if I order, I will get this model or some other model that's three years old.
Can somebody point me to some documentation? (Yes, I checked the user manuals and there's no reference to model number there or anyplace else on the DTV site).

You have no choice of models if you order from DirecTV... if you order an HD DVR they'll send you an HD DVR. What model you get depends on what's next in the stack at the warehouse. If you want a specific model you'll have to get it somewhere else, like www.solidsignal.com. Even then, if it ever needs replacement you miight get any model available in exchange.

Thanks for the quick and accurate response.
Upon further research, I found there are MANY horror stories all over the Internet about DTV sending customers very old/outdated hardware while they advertise the exact opposite on their site. Once you have the unit there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
Cool stuff. I guess I'll try to order a "real one" someplace else.

Just remember, if the HR24 has a problem and you call Directv, they will replace the DVR free (~$20 shipping, free with the service plan) and you'll get anything from a HR24 to a HR21.
I see these posts all the time. A couple of years ago it was folks demanding they get the HR21 etc. I'm here to tell you that it doesn't make any difference. Here is a tip though, if you order a new DVR and the Whole Home DVR service at the same time, there is a better than even chance they give you a HR24 if they have any.

That's fine. http://www.solidsignal.com is another reliable dealer. The problem is that if it breaks down the road, your replacement might not be an HR24. But at least you'll have the latest & greatest now.

Keep in mind that wherever you get it, the receiver will still be leased and remain DirecTV's property... subject to the same rules, fees and commitments as a receiver obtained from DIrecTV would be.
