Where are the "Directv" technicians?

I had a contractor install my dish on friday.  Saturday night I lost all my hd channels.  Spoke to directv and they said it was not aimed correctly.  They said a tech would come out on Monday.  I asked them if it would be an actual directv technician or the contractor again, they assured me a directv technician.  Well, who shows up this morning the original contractor who installed the dish. So, ofcourse he said everything is ok, he ran a system test on the box said it had to do with the rain and was out in 3 minutes. He also instructed me not to call Directv again but to call him instead. What do I do now?

Is it still malfunctioning? In any event, you don't have to call him, you can call Directv directly if you need to contact them again.

Note that calling the installer directly is fine depending on the situation.

You can check the signal strength on the 99c satellite and see if your dish is aligned correctly.  You should get a minimum of 85 on all transducers.  You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".  Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

The N/As are normal, the signal strength you have is good.  You can call the installer again but when you do they are not bound to anything they do or say.  They can tell you that they are going to be there and never show up but if there is no documentation to prove that they were supposed to be there they cannot be held responsible for it.  I would recommend calling Directv directly and having them set up a service call. As far as them telling you that a it would be a Directv employee coming out to help, they have no way of knowing for sure and have no control over who is sent out on a service call.

Are you still having the problem?  There are multiple satellites that beam the HD channels.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable).

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples.  A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Satellite transponders (32 total at 101º)

[Most of your standard definition channels are beamed from 101ºW]

Satellite transponders (3 total at 110º)

[Not present with Slimline3 dish. No channels are currently beamed from this satellite]
