where to submit suggestions for DVR operations

I'm new to Direct TV, I've been a dishnetwork customer for many years.  The quality of the picture is far superior than what I had and the search feature is much better than dish  BUT managing recordings was much easier with the system dishnetwork has.  How do you contact the people that manage the software that direct tv uses to operate the dvr.  Rewriting the way the interface works with the users would improve costomer satisfaction.

They won't see any suggestions here.  You might consider emailing them.  This is up to you of course, but you might think about becoming an expert at the HD DVR's operation before suggesting improvements.  These are pretty deep machines and many new users don't fully appreciate their capabilities.

Is there some particular management issue you're having with recording programs?

Dish DVR's have the ability to show you the recordings scheduled to happen in a time line with all the shows not being recorded and why.  This is very useful to find show conflicts.

Menu -> mange recordings -> to do list. The ones not recording will have a X in front.

Here's a good tip. When you set up a series recording, it goes to the bottom of the priority list.  If a series is a network one, like House, put that near the top of the list.  If the series is one from a channel like HBO, put that near the bottom.  The network programs are usually a single showing each week, so you don't want to miss it.  The HBO stuff has lots of repeats and the DVR will find a subsequent showing if there is a conflict.

I have three DVR's and record lots of stuff and very infrequently will I miss a scheduled recording.

I totally agree.  Dish Network has a better user interface with manageing playlists.  I want to create my own folders to sort and store recordings in so I can keep shows my kids watch seperate from the ones that I watch so it's tougher for them to accidently delete them.  I was able to do this with Dish.  The Directv sort by category feature is a joke and the list defaults back to uncategorized evey time you exit anyway.  It seems to me that this should be a fairly simple software upgrade.  Quote: Originally Posted by phil_howells

I totally agree.  Dish Network has a much better user interface for manageing dvr recordings.  I switched to Directv last year during the Fox lock out and I've been missing the better playlist control.  With Dish you can create and manage your own folders to store dvr recordings.  This was useful to me because I could keep shows my kids recorded and shows I recorded in two seperate folders.  Then when I would go to my folder I didn't have to wade through the episodes of Spongebob and Hanna Montana to find my recorded shows.  Directv's sort by category feature is a joke and it defaults back to unsorted every time you exit.  It seems to me that this should be a fairly easy software update.
