Which External HDDs are good to buy for R22-200

Hey all,

Which ExHDDs are good to buy for R22-200 DVR.  I was going to go with a Seagate freeagent.  Had good luck with those on the fta's

Hope all is well everyone.  Happy Tday!  Thanks,

Here is some good info.  Personally I would not try using a hard drive that was not recommended. the eSATA spec is fussy and lots of drives don't work.

Thanks dcd.  I'll get onto newegg and see what's out there!  Too bad it doesn't have the option to switch between int and ex hdds.  I was looking to save some shows from the summer since now they're starting to exclamation point away.  LOL.  How big is the hdd in an r22 anyway.

Have a good tday everyone!  Be safe on the roads out there.

dtnoviceca,

Personally, I recommend the Antec MX-1 actively-cooled eSATA enclosure with any quality 1-2TB sata drive mounted inside. I went through three(yes 3) of the Seagate Freeagent Pro drives mentioned by the OP. The Seagates are "passive cooled" using the aluminum enclosure case and NOT designed for HD DVR 24/7 read/write activity(they "burn up" in 3-6 months). The only consolation is the 5 year warranty so I replaced them and retired them to my PC. They work fine as a backup drive on a PC because they are not active 24/7. Here is a link to check out the Antec enclosure(real good quality...I've got 3 of them one on my HR20-700 HD DVR, one on my HR24 HD DVR and one on my Western Digital WDTV Live Media Hub).

I just learned this the hard way.  Bought a 2TB drive that reviewers on Amazon said worked with Directv HD DVR's.  WRONG!  Shows what I know.  At least I can still use it on my Mac.  I think I will hold off getting an expansion until 2TB are available.  Darn. Cry
