Whole Home Ad on's
I've read through quite a few posts on the Whole Home setup, and I must admit that it is overwhelming. I hope you have an answer for me. I have a
HR21 DVR and 2 H21 receivers. What parts do I need to make it a Whole-Home system. I don't have any internet service in my home. How would I wire it? I think this forum is wonderful. Thank you in advance for your time!

Whole Home DVR is not a do-it-yourself installation and setup. Especially if you don't fully understand SWM, DECA, proper networking, etc. Best to call DirecTV and request their Whole Home DVR upgrade. They'll upgrade your dish and provide the DECA adapters to network your equipment together using the existing satellite coax cables. Internet service is not required.

I appreciate your quick reply and concern. Without boring you with all the details, I hope you understand my concerns. I had a Directv installer do some work in my home 18 months ago. I had some things stolen from my house. The police determined that the Directv installer informed his cousin of the items in my home that were stolen several days later. I prefer not to have anyone, not just Directv do any work at my home again. Looking closer at my system, I do have a SWM dish, (single wire) going to a green splitter (MSPLIT4R1-02). The wire from the dish is going to input of the splittter. From the splitter, the leg with the orange dot is going to a power inserter. From the power inserter it goes to my HR-21. Two of the legs of the splitter go to each of my H-21's. All three receivers have the message that the whole home is authorized. I have spoken to 2 different Directv reps over the phone, and they have assured me with my current setup, that it should work. My problem is that I am not able to access the programs recorded on the DVR. The list in the H-21's are blank. Do you know if there is something missing from my current setup? Like I said before, I don't have any internet service in my home. I don't plan on having it since I have access to it at my job. I assume that there must be something missing from my setup. I would appreciate if you know if there are parts that are missing, and how they are wired? Like I said before I do appreciate your time. Thank you.

You'll need DECA coax network adapters for your HR21, and two H21's. These can be purchased from dealers like http://www.solidsignal.com. Connection is pretty simple ....
Once connected, reset the SWM system as follows ....
Assuming WHDVR service is active on your account ($3/mo), you should be good to go.

You can improve your system a lot by placing the power inserter on the power passing port of the splitter by itself, and connecting the three receivers to the other splitter ports. We see lot's of problems when the signal travels through the PI as you have it wired. Be sure the "power to SWM" port of the PI connects to the splitter. Use the splitter terminator caps to cap the unused port of the power inserter.
