Whole Home DVR vs Just Buying Another HDDVR.

For those frustrated with having to pay $149 (+ another $50 activation fee if you've been with DTV for less than 6 months) for their "required" DECA install, AND you only want your existing DVR capability transferred to ONE other existing receiver room...........Overstock.com is now selling brand new HR24's for $178.49 + $1.00 shipping (Ground). Buying another HDDVR (not guaranteed an HR24) from DTV is $199 + $49 installation (+ $50 activation fee for less than 6 month customer) = $298 plus tax (confirmed with several CSR's). Buying from Overstock deletes the $49 install, and $50 activation fee for new customers (confirmed with several CSR's), AND you'll be getting the new HR24. Hook it up, insert the access card, call DTV for activation. If you are replacing an existing receiver, ask DTV for a recovery kit so you can send it back and get its' $5/month lease fee removed. Now you'll have full HDDVR capability in that other room (more recording space, ability to pause and replay live TV, etc.), and when you factor in not having to pay that extra $3/month, could be a cheaper alternative with more capability. I believe having SWiM technology is required...only one coax needed to the HR24...check out your set-up before buying. Just an idea...hope it helps with your WHDVR decision. Just ordered mine...and I'm outta here!!!!

I have two HDDVR's and you still have to pay the 3 a month to stream between both. If you have an older package like myself you also have to "upgrade" or "upPay" to a more expensive package.

With HDTivo's you get all these features and way more, like being able to put recordings on your iPod, iPhone, or iPad and all kinds of Web features like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube.

It may work out cheaper in the long but have to switch to cable.

My original post only applies to those who have one DVR that they want to access its' use in one other room that currently only has a receiver. If you want to stream information from one DVR to another, or to multiple other receivers, or have need for a more elaborate system to get info from your computer, i-this and i-that all over the house, then a network of some sort is needed. Personally, I don't need all that....just want DVR capability in a second room that currently has a receiver. I have two other rooms with receivers that I don't need DVR service in. I SHOULD have purchased ("leased") a second DVR with my original installation. My intention was to compare costs of DECA-based WHDVR for a one-other-room need to replacing a current HD receiver with another HDDVR.
