Whole home stopped working? No changes to internet, cables, etc.
Hi there. The "main" DVR (HR24) is working fine, and is set up to be sharing just fine, etc. But our bedroom receiver suddenly seems to have become disconnected. It no longer shows the playlist, and the "main" DVR is showing no other devices. We have not changed our internet connections, cables, etc. Nothing has come loose. The internet is working fine. This has happened before, but never lasted more than 24 hours. But this time it has been three days and still no access to our shows from the bedroom. Really frustrating. Tried resetting everything. Doesn't seem to be working.
I've looked for answers within this forum, but some are written in such a technical way, I'm afraid I can't really understand them. Also, most other posts about this type of problem seem to involve someone trying to add cables or changing something. We have changed NOTHING since the system was set up by DirectTV for us months and months ago.
Thoughts? Is there some sort of a quick fix that I'm missing here?

darcysmile,
First thing to try is resetting the Whole Home DVR system exactly as follows....

darcysmile,
Well, I'm not really a subject matter expert on the DirecTV-installed DECA-based Whole Home DVR Service network equipment and I cut and pasted that response from another thread that user dcd(one of the TECHKNOWGUIDES that "is" an expert for WHDVR) had posted. I assumed you had the DECA installed network and there should be a SWM splitter(I think) somewhere in the coax run and I "think" it's the hardware device that has the connection to a power outlet. Try tracing all of the coax cables from the back of yout DVR(s) and receiver(s) and see if you find another powered piece of equipment. Maybe I'd better stop trying to assist users when it's outside my areas of expertise. I hope I haven't confused you further:0(

hey before you do all that, try this. its a little bit involved but mostly just involves pressing buttons lol:
1. reset both recievers starting the hd dvr reset first
2. at the hd dvr press and hold the info button on the remote until "info and test" comes up on the screen>press the left arrow button to highlight "info and test" and then arrow down to network setup>press select on network setup>press select on restore defaults>rename location and save. whenever its done even if it says "unable to connect" just exit
3. then do the same thing at the hd reciever.
works like a charm. If it doesn't let me know. The reason you have to do the hd dvr too is because its the server that the list comes from. the hd reciever just piggy backs off of the hd dvr hard drive basically and shares the information and storage space. Make sure there are no ethernet cables connected to the back of either and that's you're good to go.

oh and just in case you didn't know to reset you just press the little red button inside the door on the front of the reciever to the right on your hd dvr and its just on the right side of the h25.

I would guess that this is not an appropriate correction for this problem.

What is an "SWM Power Inserter"?
It's the power unit that supplies power to the dish. It will be connected to your coax somewhere. Often behind one of the TV's or where the coax enters the house.
The reset suggested by djdicetn is appropriate.

Thank you all SO much. Somewhere in the process of disconnecting and reconnecting everything, it started working. THANK YOU! 🙂

Glad it all worked for you. Keep in mind for future reference that these disconnect/reconnect resets must be done in the proper order. There is a logical reason for the order and willy nilly moves may well not accompolish the desired result. You must have gotten the willy in the proper relationship to the nilly.

darcysmile,
As eluded to by user dcd, I knew there was a "recommended sequence" for a reset of a DECA-based WHDVR network's equipment and I too am glad you finally resolved the irritating technical anomaly!!! Makes us feel good when we actually help out(even when by accident:0)
Just know you can always come to these forums and will get solid advice from other DirecTV customers who want others to enjoy their system to it's potential.
