Whole House Primer?

Hi  All,

Does a "Whole House Primer" exist?

I would like a pretty deep understanding of the technology (up to a point) before I pursue.

BTW - By deep I am looking to understand what wiring is required, what boxes are required (IE will me current box work?) and a bit more of all of the capablities.

Reason : I currently have a couple of HD DVR's (one is an old Tivo that Directv shipped) and a couple of standard def DVR's and have rigged together an old fashion whole house system by using some OLD distribution technology. (all of them sit in one closet) I guess I am trying to find out if this technology can do what I have and even more.

I realize that I will likely take advantage of installers, but no one runs wires in my house except me 🙂

The old Tivo will have to go, only current model HD receivers and DVR's will participate in Whole Home.  A SD receiver or DVR can be connected for normal TV reception but it won't share.  Here's a schematic of the average installation.
