Whole Room DVR setup

Where can I get a list and diagram of how to self install a Whole Room system. We have a multi satilite dish with one TV with DVR and the other TV only a standard system. I want to set up a total of 4 TV's for Whole Room DVR.

Only high-definition equipment is capable of whole home. You need a SWM LNB with a KA/KU dish.

This includes:

HR-20 (Requires receiver deca)

HR-21 (Requires receiver deca)

HR-22 (Requires receiver deca)

HR-23 (Requires receiver deca)

HR-24

H21 (Requires receiver deca)

here is  a diagram of a typical WHDVR set up.

but why not let DirecTV take care of this for you?

A Whole Home DVR system is unlike anything most folks have ever worked with.  Personally I figure that anyone who needs to ask "how do I do this, what do I need, where do I get it?" are better off letting the Directv installers put in the system.  In many cases it's cheaper that way too.

From what I understand the installers are as clueless on this as any user.. One has to ask how before one knows thus nomad1ne's question... Why not let the installer do it? Because every time I let one in my house I have to show them how to do whatever it is they have come to do.. Now I just have dtv ship it and I do it. If DTV requires a installer I take the equipment and dismiss them.. If I should up at a client site with as little knowledge as most of the installers I have met I would not have a job.

if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc=1;var lponlyfill=null;if (lploc == 3) { if (document.getElementById('loginField')) { document.getElementById('loginField').value = lpcurruser; } if (document.getElementById('passwordField')) { document.getElementById('passwordField').value = lpcurrpass; } }lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = '';if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc=1;var lponlyfill=null;if (lploc == 3) { if (document.getElementById('loginField')) { document.getElementById('loginField').value = lpcurruser; } if (document.getElementById('passwordField')) { document.getElementById('passwordField').value = lpcurrpass; } }lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = '';

what this might be true, this is the exception not the rule.  DirecTV performs thousands of this upgrades and installation on a daily basis and the majority of them go without a hitch.

I keep seeing this, but I have no DECAs and have full whole house functionality, nomad functionality and internet functionality.

And before anyone asks, I know what a DECA is and what it looks like. There are none connected to any of my receivers. There are three in the house, but they are in a storage bin, not attached to anything. I had the first whole house install in the county when it first came out and the installer put DECAs in, the next tech came out and took them all off - everything still worked and has since. FWIW, my house has wired gigabit throughout.

Is there something that I'm missing about the DECAs?

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

Deca's are a way to distribute your ethernet connection over coax. If you had ethernet atevery port that you have coax run, then you can plug it in the back and skip the deca's. Most people do not have a wired networked house, so directv supports the Deca's. The newer recievers have a built in deca, where they can distinguish the different signals coming through one coax. One signal being satalite, one being ethernet(internet or network).

Well I would say that some techs are clueless when it comes to the whole home service and on demand. But most of us know what to do. Now if we get a know it all customer that wants to tell us how to do our job then it can be aggravating. My job as a tech is to educate customer before working and then get it done. If I showed up at your house and u asked me to just leave it. I would just say no thanks. You would make a mess and then call direct tv. Then they would send someone else and backcharge me for there stupidity. This happens way to often and something should be done.

With all do respect - I normally do know more.. I have installed more then one dish for multiple birds. I have cabled my own house and installed all my receivers. I have Cat6 drops in most rooms and a server to die for.. I don't make messes.

Okay, you're very bright and we accept that.  Did you happen to notice you hijacked the original posters question and thread?

Actually if you reread the original post I came to his defense after you told him.

"Personally I figure that anyone who needs to ask "how do I do this, what do I need, where do I get it?" are better off letting the Directv installers put in the system. In many cases it's cheaper that way too."

He asked How do I do this, what do I need and where do I get it because he wants to learn. So help him learn. Some of us just like doing things ourselves.

All that said - I promise this is my last thought on the topic..
