WholeHome and Internet Connection
I recently went to a Whole Home DVR system. I want to connect a tv to the new HR24-200 DVR via my router. I try to set it up and am told that IF I have Whole Home I must have a DirecTV "Cinema COnnection Kit".
WHY?? My girlfriend has used a CAT5 cable to connect her DVR and router for some years now without problem. She recently purchased the Whole Home system and continues with the same CAT5 cable to the router and thus continues to get all the ON DEMAND programs as she has in the past WITHOUT the "Cinema Connection Kit".
So why do I need the kit?

If your girlfriend had DirecTV install WHDVR and they left her network connected to the DVR, they did not do the installation correctly. They should have disconnected it from the DVR and connected it through a separate DECA (aka the Cinema Connection Kit). The only reason it is working is because she probably doesn't have an HR24 DVR. However, it is still an incorrect installation.
In your case, since you have an HR24, then connecting the network to the DVR directly will disable the DVR's internal DECA and keep WHDVR from working at all.

I want to connect a TV to the new HR24-200 DVR via my router.
Even with a properly installed kit, which will give you Cinemaplus, Directv2PC, Media Share and TV Apps, not sure how you intend connecting a TV set to the HR24 via your router.

The CAT5 cable will connect to both router and DVR.
