wireless network problems

ok so i have two hd dvrs  cinema plus added to the network. every day or so my wireless devices (ps3 and 2 ipod touches) dissconnect from the network and cant be connected until i restart my router. if i try to reconnect before i restart my router the wifi password wont be accepted. if i restart my router everything connects no problem. if i take the decca broadband off the network everything works fine.  sometimes my ipod after not connecting will seem connected and if i check the ipods ip address is something like 169.254.55.5 something close to that. almost as if the ipod is connecting to the cinema plus thingy but i cant actually connect to the internet. all it takes is a restart of the router and everything works fine for a time. the ps3 never leaves the house but the ipods do, still they all disconnect together. strange!?!?!?!why would the ipod pick up an ip address that isnt anywhere near my routers dhcp range. the setup worked fine for three year until the introduction of the cinema plus decca broadband. any insight would be greatly appreciated. i downloaded two apps on the ipod, a directv remote controll app and the directv dvr scheduler. i dont know if that matters or not, but they both worked fine. everything works fine for about a day or so and then no wireless until after i restart my router. the pc and xbox360 are wired into the router and never lose connection to the internet only the wireless devices

The deca has a coax into it and then a Ethernet from the deca into my wireless router. So wireless right? Only thing going into my receivers is one coax each.

Nope, your DECA BB adapter is hard wired through the coax there is no wireless involved.  The network interference problem you have is typical if the BB adapter is connected after the receivers are activated.  The fix is thus:  (this allows the router to assign all the IP addresses, thus removing the interference).

First thing to try is resetting the DECA network....it must be done in this order. Before you begin, assure that DHCP is enabled on your router if your system is connected to the Internet.  This is essential.

1. Disconnect AC power from each DVR and Receiver

2. Disconnect power from the DECA BB Adapter (black DECA BB box)

3. Disconnect power from the SWM dish Power Inserter (do you know where yours is located)?

4. Disconnect then reconnect AC power on your home network gateway/router and modem.

5. Wait a few minutes for the router to reset

6. Re-power the SWM Power Inserter

7. Re-power the DECA Broadband Adapter

8. Re-power each DVR and Receiver

Following that, press and hold the info button on one DVR, then select more system info. Scroll down and check that Internet is listed as connected.

ive done exactly that reset, three times.  it all powers up right and the receivers get an ip that is in my dhcp routers range no problem but after a day or so the devices cannot connect and i have to reset the router. all the directv functions work normally and internet is flowing to them. im not sure what can cause my ipod to pick up a strange ip. i called directv and they said maybe the deca was previously used at another house and will constantly search for some other ip address. i look at the deca box and didnt see a reset button like one you would push with a small pin. it didnt have one.

BB DECA don't have a reset button because they don't require any configuration.  the router's DHCP servers in charge of providing IP addresses to all of your devices.  can you look in your router settings and find the DHCP server logs and look for a duplicate IP address.  you must have all of your devices connected to the network.

The 169.252.xxx.xxx address is an internal loopback address.  It means that your router is not properly assigning an IP address.

Seems odd. When I reboot the router it does assign the correct ip. Then seems to time out on the wireless devices or if I disconnect won't assign the correct one. What is with the loopback ip address? My ip range is 192.168.1,2-51. That loopback seems out of leftfield( I'm a networking novice ).

The cinema plus and directv services never get interrupted from the Internet only three(all) wireless device. And if I reboot the router everything on the network is hunky dorey. What gives how do I fix this. should I just get rid of the deca? I have two DVr that I would like to share the playlist. Is that possible minus the deca bb? I have no problem getting it working for a day or so. The directv supervisor is due at my house tomorrow so I'll let you guys know what we come up with. I swear I was polite on the phone to get him to come out. The first two installers didn't know much about networking I think. Thanks for the help fellas.

The playstation is 192.168.1.100. Router dhcp range 2-51. Ps3 is on a static ip. All device ips are reserved for each device. They always find the same ip. No duplicates. If I redraft my router they always assign the correct ips. For a time anyways. I'm obsessed with finding this answer. Haha

I don't know what your specific problem is, but when I see "Ps3 is on a static ip" or any other mention of "static" my ears prickle.  I'm in favor of allowing the router to assign all IP configuration.  Personally, I don't think the BB module is your problem,. I think maybe you have a faulty RF segment in the router.

As an aside, and just to make sure.  I've gotten the "been there, done that" response to the reset procedure any number of times.  On several occasions it turned out that the process had not been done in the correct order or did not include all the steps.  For example, the resetting of the router midway through.  If that is not done, the router will continue to create the same errors.  Why not get rid of any static addresses and try one more time?

From a network guy,  like dcd stated, do not use static ip's on any device.  The worst case is, go into your router, set the dchp addressing

from the standard range of 192.168.x.xx to a range of 10.0.0.1 with 10 users.  This puts the system on a 'private' ip system and will work just fine with the auto assign and connect.  This how I have been running my system for years and how I install other systems and have never had a call about trouble.
