Broken Relationship
I called today to cancel my service with Directv streaming. I have been with Directv streaming since 2020 and with Directv satellite-based service for 20 years before that. I am told I have to wait until the end of my billing cycle for the service to be cancelled which is another month away. This is not what I want. I don't want to pay for a service that has severed a 23 year relationship with me. I want the service cancelled today and a pro-rated refund sent to me.

Sorry, with Directv Stream you pay in advance. So even if you cancel you will still have the service until the end of your billing cycle. That is how it has worked since the day the service launched. Directv is not going to prorate your account and send you a refund if they did that then they would have to do it with all their customers. Sorry to tell you this but you do not get special treatment just because you do not want the service anymore.

I am very well acquainted with what Directv won't do. It wasn't me that severed a 23-year relationship. Up until today, I was a loyal customer. So yes, I know what they won't do and that's why they have a 1.9 star customer service rating. The worst I've ever seen. What they should do is honor the fact that I have had a long history and refund my money and stop the service as of today, not a month from now. Anything less in unacceptable.

Well since you have been a customer that long you should already know their policy. What you deem as unacceptable is Directv's policy. They are not going to change it just for you it does not matter how long you have been a customer.

What's the point of your post if you already knew all of this? Doesn't matter what you want it's how Dtv operates in terms of cancels and paying for your service ahead of time. It's a private company --they can do what they want. Plus when you sign up---they let you know how the service billing works.

Sorry but not prorating the bill is standard in the industry. DirecTV joined that standard in 2019. So just like everyone else you do not get a prorated refund.
Claiming it is unacceptable doesn't change how the rules work. So time to face reality like an adult.
You are choosing to cancel service, not DirecTV, so saying they are severing the relationship is not a true statement.

Well, one thing is for certain, Directv has a bunch of ready-made yesmen on here...lol. Nothing better to do? Juniper, I never said how Directv severed the relationship, only that they had. My terminating the service was the result. If you're going to insult posters (time to face reality like an adult), you ought to at least get your facts straight. I noticed none of you yesmen commented on that wonderful customer service rating: 1.2 stars on Trustpilot, 1.2 stars on Yelp, etc. (Edited per community guidelines), I guess I was generous. All I'm saying is maybe they should take a look at their policies because they don't serve them well and many people are unhappy with them.

We are not "yes" men. However we do acknowledge how the rules work and that they have been in place for years. So we pointed out the reality of the situation, which no matter how much you find unacceptable, is the reality of how it works.
You know they don't prorate the bill. But here you are stomping your feet saying it is unacceptable as if somehow that means you have the power and right to change how it works. That is where I say you are not treating the situation like a mature adult and I stand by that.
I don't go by ratings on such sites as too often they are exaggerated (for any company) by people just complaining because they did not get what they believe they are 'entitled' to. Not saying that DirecTV is perfect or that they have room for improvement, especially since the acquisition by AT&T (which I hope the new co-owner makes strides on making that better), and certainly if there are any valid grievances they should be addressed.
DirecTV is neither the first nor the last to stop prorating the final bill. As mentioned it became standard in the service provider industry, not just pay TV. Your prior time with DirecTV and currently DIRECTV STREAM do not make you exception to the rules. That has nothing to do with honoring your time with them.
Go ahead and cancel yourself, but understand you pay for the full billing month and you are not entitled to any prorated refund. So with that knowledge of the reality you can pay your final bill, return your boxes, and move on to where you feel the service will be a better fit for you.
