Cancellation actions unethical

Let me make sure I understand your cancellation policy. I’ve subscribed for several years. You send out a statement rates are increasing but not the amount. Then you activate a $15 or so increase and charge it a month in advance. When I see the charged amount, I immediately try to cancel the subscription. Too late! Already paid! No way to change or appeal. No person to talk to. Links don’t work! That about right!

Directv Stream charges on the 1st of every month. I am looking at my bill and there isn't a price increase on mine. I think that happens next month. Maybe that 15 dollar or so increase is b/c your 3 months free of HBO max expired.

A few weeks ago I called Direct TV (Satellite) about their price increase.  At that time I asked about Direct TV (Stream).  He said DTV Stream is NOT raising prices in 2022 when DTV Satellite does.  I asked because I have both.  But, who knows :)

That's not true, Dtv stream sent out an email a couple of weeks ago about upcoming price increases. That doesn't happen til the end of next month. Also the OP has not been charged yet for a price increase. He was obviously charged for something else.

I have the Entertainment Package.  That's probably why they told me that there would be no price increase, and that explains why I never received an e-mail upping the price.  Glad you posted the info.

Here is the email that was sent out 12/15/21

DIRECTV STREAM Price Changes for 2022

We’re making several adjustments to pricing for DIRECTV STREAM starting January 23, 2022. You’ll see the new pricing in your monthly service fee.

DETAILED INFO

DIRECTV STREAM packages

Due to increased programming costs, we’re adjusting the price of our video packages. Periodically, TV network owners increase the fees they charge DIRECTV STREAM® for the right to broadcast their movies, shows, and sporting events. In addition, this year we have experienced higher-than-normal inflation across our suppliers.

Heads up:

  • Have a DIRECTV STREAM contract introductory offer? You'll keep that discount until it expires. Once your offer period ends, you’ll pay the new price for your package.
  • If you change your package, you may not be eligible for certain discounts anymore.

FWIW, DTV does not (necessarily) charge subscribers on the first of the month, but rather on the anniversary of the activation date (with adjustments for dates that would be the 29-31 of the month).

The details of the DTV Stream cancellation policy are here.  It should be possible to get hold of Customer Service (not that they are necessarily actually helpful) - how did you try to contact them.

And BTW - the people who answered here are all other subscribers, not DirecTV employees, so none of this is "ours".  Some (almost universally unhelpful) reps post here under the name DIRECTVhelp, but the forums are not an official support mechanism.

In the end Directstream is priced at nearly double the other streaming services out there and it certainly doesn't provide any value for the dollar.   The excuse they are giving of increased streaming rates is nonsense because other people have those contracts and charge a fraction for the same or simlilar channels.  The Business model is to be sneaky and charge whatever you can because most people won't pursue doing anything about it because trying to get help through the business is an exercise in futility.

AT&T as well as DirectTV/Stream have a long history of unethical business conduct in regards to price gouging etc.   I would contact AT&T office of the President and lodge a complaint. They will refer it to the corporate escalation at DirectTV.  Of course the link to file the complaint isn't found anywhere on ATT website. You have to google ATT board of directors and on that webpage scroll to the bottom and you will find the link.

ATT pays millions to save thousands by setting up systems like this so they can say they are available if you can find the easter egg. Only companies that are deceptive and unethical hide their contacts to the executives from the general public and their customers so this is who you are doing business with.   It's actually a shame because overall I liked the setup of the guide and few other things and was considering going back but I'm drawing the line over the cost.  Not because I can't afford it but because I like to keep the lights out when I'm getting screwed and ATT likes to do it right out in the open with a spotlight.

It's one thing to be taken for a ride and it's another to be taken for a ride and then be asked to pay for the gas.   You can get your money back if you are persistent but I cannot grasp how people continue to give this company their business when they are openly ripping you off.  They have no shame and don't even try to hide it.

I pay 84.99 a month and get RSN's that other streaming services don't have. Which streaming service is half that price that offers as many channels and has their own box?

again the box isn't a positive.  It brings zero value to anyone who has any type of smart tv, roku, PC, etc.   That's why nobody else even offers one and most market the fact that it's not needed.  It defeats the purpose of cutting the cord to a large extent.

  • Includes NFL, NBA, and MLB networks
  • Includes PBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon
  • Includes unlimited cloud DVR storage space and rewind, fast forward, and pause capability
  • 3 streams and 6 accounts per household

That's for 64.00 month.   Unlimited DVR which expires in 30 days is another 10.00 on Directstream.  The box is also a monthly fee or additional purchase should you need one.  Again, almost nobody is watching 65 or 85 channels and most of the major channels are offerred on both so it's the fringe stuff that's different and that is simply a matter of taste.

Personally I despise YouTube TV for other reasons and want to move to another service but I'm not willing to pay that much more for not a lot of added value from my perspective.  Again if the sports package is worth that difference that is fine, for you but sports isn't the only driving force as to why people make the choices they do.

I also called DirectTV customer service about my severe increase in my billing $386 !!!!  The rep was rude, told me it was too late to receive any credit back (yet we pay the bill for the month ahead???) like I'm stupid!!!!  Her customer service was horrible.  The price gouging is inconceivable to me and I'm quite sick of it- there were no changes made to my viewing package - yet I was told that they had given me a $30 credit off of the month prior bill.  Which diversion tactic didn't go un noticed by me.  I've been shopping for better services & will continue to complain = they're already under several class action suits for sales calls from do not call lists, etc.   I plan on taking this to any level possible.  They (Edited per community guidelines)

@LIZFOLLEN78 Wrong forum. You need DirecTV Satellite, not DirecTV Stream. Rant in the correct forum.

@LIZFOLLEN78

An increase in billing to $386 wouldn't make sense. Even if that were total bill it would be unusual unless you had seasonal sport subscriptions to get it over $300 or had a LOT of TVs on the account.

This is a thread from about 2 years ago (Dec 2021) and for DIRECTV STREAM. I would suggest creating your own thread for guidance and make sure it is the correct section.

Be aware this is a public forum of other customers. We can help provide guidance, but for official support you call DirecTV. I would discuss the itemization of that bill first to find out exactly why it is that amount so you have your starting point.
