Direct TV cancelled

I called ATT to cancel our ATT internet and DirecTV cable Feb 17th, 2024.  The ATT Rep told me there is no pro-rating so if I wish I could continue ATT to its Feb 23 cycle and DirecTV to its March 2nd cycle.  I said great, do that.  (I forgot to ask about removing my cc on file and auto pay). The services both shut-off like clock work. However my bank acct cc incurred $82.62 debit on Match 2nd too. It pended til today and then processed. I called ATT/DirecTV today and was told that my TV service was/is billed in arrears. ( I don't think so. In fact Google brought me to this forum where stated above "you don't pay  after, you pay in advance...") . The Rep did nothing and insisted I was wrong.  Even though the $82.62 was only for DirecTV and nothing for ATT. She said  that was because ATT you pay in advance and DirecTV in arrear.  Again I don't think so. Also n the 2nd I did go online and noticed my autopay and card still on file. I removed them. Tonight the Rep said they were still on file and she'd remove them.  She promised. I am very cordial  but ATT or  DirectTV owe me $82.62 for the month they stole.

We're sorry for the confusion, @tgtrotter. We understand you're concerned about the $82.62 charge on your card after canceling the service and removing the credit card from autopay. We'll send you a DM to take a closer look into this. Arlyn, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Anything regarding AT&T you will need to post in the AT&T Forum here is the link:

https://forums.att.com/   as AT&T and Directv are 2 separate companies now.  As for the charge for Directv, you should be able to go back and look at your bills to see if you owe them money.  If you find that you did not then you can always file a BBB (Better Business Bureau) Complaint as these go straight to the corporate office. I would also double-check to make sure that your CC info was actually removed from their system.  Also, you should make sure by calling Directv Customer Service to make sure that your Directv Service is actually disconnected as that could be the reason for the charge.

@tgtrotter

When you cancel, service continues to the end of the bill cycle. DirecTV's autopay is on day 2 of the cycle, which is what they mean by billing in advance as opposed to after the cycle has ended.

Since the amount of $82.62 is smaller than a normal bill for most, I suspect there were one-time charges to clear the account such as unbilled PPVs or an Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) if your service agreement had up to 4 months left on it ($20 per remaining month).

Though if your AT&T and DirecTV bills were combined on one, then upon cancellation the bills separate and AT&T returns DirecTV charges back to them in order to bill directly.

Whether one-time charges, separating bills, or something else, you will need to call DirecTV (not AT&T) to verify exactly what the charges on the bill are for.

And is this DirecTV (satellite) or one of the streaming-only options DIRECTV STREAM or DirecTV by Internet?

I just signed up for DirectTV and received a bill on the first day. I would call back in and escalate this to a supervisor!
