Will DirecTV Stream bring back the promotions that were offered a few weeks ago?

Currently, the only promotion on the DirecTV Stream site is the premium channels free for 3 months. Up until a few weeks ago, there was a promotion for:

  • $25-$30 off for 2 or 3 months (approximately)
  • DirecTV Sports Pack free for a month or 2
  • premium channels free for 3 months (approximately)

Any chance these promotions will come back anytime soon?

Nobody here would know the answer to that question. Call DirecTV and see what sort of deal you can get.

Doesnt matter, the cost will go up so much after those discounts, you might as well get Fubo or Youtube TV. Save some money, dont fall for the Direct TV scam.

I’m not sure what issue you are raising. Right now YouTube TV is $73 and comes with 3 streams.  If you want unlimited home streams and 4K, it’s $10 more, so $83.  DTV Stream base package is $80 (no promos) and comes with unlimited home streams and 4K.  Fubo base package is $80 - it’s not clear from their website if that includes unlimited streams and the 1000 hour  DVR - if not, those are $10 and $17 per month respectively.  Each service has advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you want. But it certainly looks like DTV Stream is about the same price as those other two.

@litzdog911 - thank you for your suggestion. I really do appreciate your quick response. I tried calling the DirecTV Stream # that's under your comment (DirecTV Stream 1-888-429-4023). I know it's not your # since you're an ACE. The customer service rep tried to sell me DirecTV via internet and had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned "DirecTV Stream". They tried to convince me that DirecTV via internet and DirecTV Stream are the same, but I had to give the rep the DirecTV Stream URL.  The rep tried to argue with me and said that DirecTV Stream was old and DirecTV via internet replaced it.

I tried to talk with a rep via chat that tried to sell me on DirecTV via internet even when I said I didn't want it. The rep tried to convince me that the Ultimate package on DirecTV via internet was $145.98 including all taxes. That price only includes the package, ARS fee and RSN fee. I'm in FL and we have Sales Tax and a Communication Service Tax that would be added to the $145.98.

I know you're not a DirecTV employee, but have you experienced this? Out of curiosity, are there truly dedicated employees for the DirecTV Stream side that are knowledgeable about this particular service?

For the record, this rant isn't directed at you so I apologize for dumping it on you.

There are two "flavors" of DirecTV Stream:

1. "DirecTV via Internet" is what the reps will try to sell you. It's essentially a two year contract commitment like DirecTV Satellite, but using the internet. 

2. "DirecTV Stream Bring Your Own Device" is the same streaming channels but with no contract. You provide your own streaming device, like a Roku, FireStick, or DirecTV box that you buy yourself.

I’d guess your best access to Stream info and signup is through the (dedicated) website at https://streamtv.directv.com/.  You won’t get/have to talk to a rep, but you’ll get hopefully factual info.  (Follow and read the various fine print links.)   Check the channel packages and add-ons there to see what the lowest price deal you’d be happy with.  There’s also a “channel lookup” link to see which locals and RSNs they offer at your location. Note that if you care about RSNs, they are not included in the lowest package (Entertainment), just in Choice or higher.  

It appears the only promo right now is 3 months free of a bunch of premium services (HBO, Paramount+, etc.) - if you don’t want them past the 3 months, remember to cancel as I’d doubt they would remind you.

There are no fees with Stream (the price is the price) but there are taxes most places, including Florida (I’m also in Florida and my taxes on the service run about 13%).  

If you want the DTV dedicated streaming device (which gives the service a more cable-like feel), Stream subscribers can’t get them from DTV, but used ones (of the box, probably not the dongle yet) can be found on eBay.  As some are left in an unusable state, buy only from a source that has sold lots of them and takes returns. 

Stream also offers free trials. I’m not sure of the length - probably a week. If you go with a trial and decide you don’t want the service, be careful to cancel in time - they are picky. You’d be safest canceling a day ahead.

I won’t swear to that percentage. I’m on a very old subscription, with some discounts, added charges that are credited, etc., and it’s not completely clear if the taxes are on the final amount or on some pre-credit number. I am assuming the former, which is what I based the rate I mentioned on. In any case, it seems pretty high, but I can’t blame that one on DTV.

@Jrandomuser - I know it's a "guesstimate" LOL, but it's probably pretty close. Yeah, FL just has high taxes when it comes to communications. Found that out through satellite which I think the taxes are higher. The fact that you have discounts gives me hope. Maybe my time on the satellite side will count for something when I switch. Thank you both.

There is no scam. Each of those services has their pros and cons. Up to each of us to choose the best service for us.

Just because something didn't work out like you wanted doesn't mean the same for the rest of us. If you want guidance or to discuss a concern then post some details. Otherwise if you just want to make vague unsubstantiated accusations, take your tantrum elsewhere please.

Alright I'll bite. So I originally wanted AT&T fiber internet in my area. Installation guy came, and a sales rep came a few minutes after. The sales guy mentioned Direct TV stream, I guess the two companies are working together to offer discounts. I was told it would be $65 per month for the 1st 3 months, then $85 after, pretty normal to me. I said sure, and he set everything up right there and just had me put in my email and make a pw. I asked If I could cancel any time and he said yes. Little did I know, 4 months later, the price would be $105 monthly. All of the extra fees, taxes, equipment fees kept going up every month after the initial promotional discounts. So I decide to cancel, and hold on, there's a 400 DOLLAR FEE to end a 'contract'.  I tried speaking with customer service about this whole situation and they were indifferent, couldnt get an answer as to why I was sold this product and locked into the contract. 5 months of being a customer and I'll never go back to Direct TV....who the (Edited per community guidelines) does 2 year contracts on streaming? I hope the $400 was worth it, like I said, I'll stick with cheaper, better streaming options.

AT&T acquired the DirecTV brand a few years ago. However in-person salespeople like that are normally 3rd party sellers, not employees of AT&T itself (and certainly not of DirecTV since they don't have in-person sales at all).

DirecTV - Service by satellite. Comes with 24 month service agreement to recoup costs involved of equipment and install.

DIRECTV STREAM - Streaming. Bring your own device (BYOD) by using Roku, Firestick, etc.

DirecTV by Internet (newest option) - More traditional TV service delivered by over the internet and has service agreement with requiring their branded Gemini (C71KW) streaming device. It is not a start and stop whenever you want like a basic streaming service, hence what it is "by Internet" since it functions more like other pay TV providers (satellite, cable, etc.)

I would review the order confirmation to absolutely sure on the details. Sounds like a sales rep badly misrepresented the service. If the order confirmation and what you received do not match then I would file a BBB complaint.

Though fees should not be going up "every month". There is a annual price adjustment, normally takes effect in January but the recent one was a couple months early in November. If your fees are going up multiple times something is very odd and I would suggest going back and sifting through your bills with a fine tooth comb for the exact changes.

Since your issue is unrelated to the OP asking about if certain promotions will come around again, I would suggest starting your own thread. In addition to what was offered to you, please include details from the order confirmation and your monthly bill in regards to your TV service. Make sure that services or brand name are listed exactly (DIRECTV STREAM or DirecTV by Internet). Even include screenshots if you can, though with personal/sensitive info removed of course.

Though we cannot directly fix this for you, hopefully we can help sort through the specifics of what happened. That way you have all the info when you submit complaint on the bad sales agent, as well as if anything about the service or charges is not as it should be.
