$15 Monthly Advanced Receiver Fee - Do I have Options?

I'm a new Direct TV (over internet) subscriber. I have not had my installation yet.

I see I will be charged the $15 monthly advanced receiver fee for the Gemini device that comes with the installation. Do I have other options than to endlessly pay this monthly fee?  Can I buy my own Gemini device and plug it in?  Do I even have to have a Gemini device ? (I am aware of the channel numbers advantage when using the device.)

If I didn't get a Gemini device, how can I record (DVR) Direct TV content?

Thanks in Advance.

So now to answer your question. You can do Directv Stream Bring your own device so that you do not have to pay the advanced receiver fee.  With that option, you can use any device such as a Roku, Firestick, etc... or anything you can download the Directv Streaming app on.  Also, you could use a Gemini device but you would not be able to purchase it through Directv you would have to get it through a third-party seller such as Amazon or eBay, etc... If you were to go that route when purchasing from 3rd party sellers make sure that they accept returns as a lot of times they sell Directv Gemini devices that are no longer useable. You are still able to record to the Directv's Cloud DVR no matter what device you use but how you access the DVR and guide is a little bit different than using the Gemini device as you lose the option to turn directly to those because they are only on the Gemini remote control.  I hope this helps to answer some of your questions.
