Can you recommend a user friendly remote for a room without the Gemini streaming box please?

You are looking for a third-party remote to control a Sony TV? I'd assume there are lots of them, assuming the Sony TV uses an IR remote. If so, you should be able to use as many as you want.
I'm not sure what this has to do with DirecTV. Your comment that the "room doesn't have a Gemini device" is puzzling. Assuming you mean that you are running the DirecTV app on the Sony TV and are interested in controlling the app - you would control it in the same way with a third-party remote as with the Sony native remote. If you are seeking a remote that would give you the level of control of the app that you would have with the Gemini device (such as entering channel numbers), that isn't possible - the app itself doesn't support that.
If you are asking a different question, please provide more detail.

You have DIRECTV STREAM and want to use a TV app instead of a box (Gemini, Roku, Firestick, etc.), correct?
Be aware you cannot input channel numbers on any option other than the Gemini. The apps in the TV or other streaming boxes do not have that function.
Curious about the two remotes. Sounds like setting up for remote wars.

Thanks for sharing your input, @Jrandomuser. Hi, @GMaw. Please know that you won't get all the functionality and features of the Gemini device once you're using the DIRECTV STREAM app through your Sony TV with a 3rd-party remote and streaming device. For user-friendly remotes, you can refer to your TV manufacturer for further assistance. Sean, DIRECTV Community Specialist

These quick responses are great! The two remotes work great when I’m sitting on couch & hubby in recliner has fallen asleep. Other examples but that’s likely the most relatable. It’s true I was looking for a remote similar layout to the one he’s learning in bedroom with the Gemini. Very informative that we can’t enter #; I assume no voice recognition either. I’ve been told no “two controls” option if we elect to add another Gemini in den, right?

With the Gemini device, you can have two remote controls connected to the Gemini device, all at the same time. However, remotes must be paired again on the Gemini device if you want to use it on your other Gemini devices. Any one remote control can only be paired with one TV. Our Gemini remote has a voice control. For features of our Gemini remote, visit How to program your DIRECTV remote control | DIRECTV Support to learn more. Sean, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I believe that you actually can use 2 of the DirecTV remotes with a single Gemini, though I’ve never done it personally. Only the stock DirecTV remote supports voice control, but for (almost?) anything else a third-party remote should work with a Gemini device (“box”) assuming the remote has line of sight to the device. For the Gemini Air device (dongle) only the DirecTV remote works. I don’t think DirecTV sells just the remotes, but they can be found on eBay relatively inexpensively. Note that the DirecTV remotes connect to the Gemini devices with Bluetooth, so the remote pairs with a particular device - I’m not sure whether you can pair the same remote with more than 1 Gemini at a time.

Poor Amazon (not really 😂) I’m sending back remotes that look like the original Gemini because those are not going to work in the den without a Gemini box. I’m discouraging that as an option since I don’t know FOR SURE I could have two remotes working one Gemini. I’ve been told no. Thanks for all past & future guidance

Thanks!!! I’ll try to have this be my last clarifying summary/question. If we buy another Gemini box & remote for the den, can I/how would I get another Gemini type remote to be the second remote in den? Or have I misunderstood?

I'm using two remotes with my Gemini devices and I've actually used three remotes with one Gemini box. I bought my spare Gemini remotes from amazon.

You're welcome. Whenever you purchase a Gemini box, it already comes with a remote. However, additional or a second remote control is not available for purchase at this time. Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Specialist

I like the Ludwick577 encouragement!! Maybe I’ll hang on to an Amazon remote until we get this resolved. Guess I’ve got about a 30 day window for those returns. Y’all have been very helpful. Thanks!!
