Direct TV Stream DVR timing

I'm new to Direst TV Stream and have a problem recording a sports event that runs past the scheduled time.  It seems that Direst TV Stream will only record a sporting event per the guide and doesn't extend if an event runs over.  Is there a way to add additional time to a live sporting event?

The only option currently is to record the next event. This has been reguested by many over the years but still no tool is available.

Usually sporting events are automatically extended now. Just watched a spring training Cardinals game yesterday and it "recorded" the entire game past the scheduled time.

The auto-extend works for only some sports (and I believe only some channels).  The official statement from DTV is at the bottom of this support item.
