Equipment charges

So I am seeing that you need a streaming box and remote that you have to purchase for the app to work properly. This was not disclosed when I signed up for the free trail. So is the case and do you have to have one for each TV and what is the cost.

Hi, Ddalley. DIRECTV App doesn't require a streaming box and a remote. All you need to do is install the app on your TV and sign in with your login credentials. To learn more, go here https://www.directv.com/support/article/000069938 Need help? Send us a DM. Aljoy, DIRECTV Community Specialist

A device is needed for each TV. The device could be a Smart TV, computer, tablet, or streaming device like a Fire Stick or Roku, etc. Verify the device is compatible with the service.

You can bring your own device without having to buy their Gemini device with monthly fee. That's Directv Internet. For your own device :

The list of compatible devices is here.  The only “smart” TVs natively supported (that is, that have compatible apps to download) are Samsung and those with Roku, AndroidTV/GoogleTV, or Amazon FireTV built in.  Many people report a better experience with outboard devices than with the smart TV versions, but YMMV.  If you don’t have a compatible outboard device but do have a compatible smart TV, you can certainly try that and see how well it works for you. Note that the only device that supports direct channel number entry is DirecTV’s own device.  If that is important to you, note that only certain subscriptions (“DirecTV via Internet”, not “DirecTV Stream”, which they also call “BYOD”) can buy those devices from DirecTV, but they are available (used) from eBay.
