Gemini Air constantly disconnects - no troubleshooting makes any difference

After about 10-15 minutes it drops the wifi connection.

This is on a band new Quantum fiber wifi7 360 mesh, nothing else has issues, ONLY this Genini Air box.

If I power-cycle the Gemini Air it's fine for another 10 mins, maybe 20, then craps out again - same every time - fully functional, just can't see any wifi networks anywhere anymore.

5Ghz wifi7 with full bars pegged at all times - Gemini can't see it, so just craps out completely.  Have power cycled the router and this Genini thing multiple times - nothing fixes it. Router is fine, range is fine, nothing else has issues, I have garbage $5 'smart' bulbs that stay connected 50 feet out past this gemini air thing.

Have not had a single day of TV viewership on this box since we got it.

You can buy a Gemini box from Walmart for 40 bucks. It has an ethernet port

Ongoing Wi-Fi issues with the Gemini Air can be frustrating, and we appreciate your troubleshooting efforts, @Zark0000. If you haven't yet, try doing a factory reset. Here's how: DIRECTV Gemini Air factory reset | DIRECTV Support

The device was brand new, but we did a factory reset anyway. As could be easily predicted, that completely fruitless hassle made absolutely zero difference.

Quantum Fiber did a wifi analysis when they installed everything, and the Gemini gets full bars on the 5G radio. So it's not that.

I checked for updates for the Gemini - none.

Last night it crapped out again, just completely dropped wifi in the middle of watching a show. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, again (SO sick of doing that) it rebooted, etc. etc. - got back into the show, watched maybe 3 minutes, bam, dropped internet again. We just gave up at that point.

Remove any complexities inside your network- you mentioned you have a mesh one and that could convolute things. Disable IPv6 if you have it enabled to see if that makes a difference, also remove routers, switches, and WiFi extenders from the equation. As a last resort engage with the reps here and give them your serial number so they can take a look at your device in specific. Also make sure you have the latest and greatest AndroidTV OS updates and the latest DTV app update.

Just got off of Chat with DirecTV customer support. They told me that the Gemini Air can NOT navigate between the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz wifi channels, and it WILL disconnect if it switches from one to the other.

So, it's completely dead in the water and basically useless to me. I have Quantum fiber, I do not have access to configure the router to set separate ssids, nor would I want to just to make the Gemini function properly.

We have children's toys that can handle switching between 2.4 and 5ghz without bricking.

Can you confirm that the Gemini is unable to switch between 2.4 and 5ghz without losing connectivity?

No - It's not a feasible or realistic solution to downgrade and tear down my entire network in a vain attempt to get DirecTV's half-functional device to work.

Only solution I've found that might work is from another user on a similar post - https://forums.directv.com/conversations/directv-stream-setup-equipment/gemini-air-dropping-connection/6504ccb835f46a450d58bf31?page=7

This is clearly a very well known issue.

Get a smart plug, set it to power cycle the Gemini Air daily to keep it functional. Sad.

Oooh - this one?  https://www.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-C71KW-400-Gemini-DirecTV-Now-Osprey-Android-TV-OTT-Box-Streaming-Player/5693255994

Nice, thanks!  In 16 words you were more helpful than 4-5 DirecTV support people and dozens of messages. They should pay you :)

My router allows you to force connected devices to use 2.4, 5 or auto. See if you can assign it to 5ghz only then will not swap.
