Migrating from DIRECTV Satellite to DIRECTV Streaming

Has anyone done a full migration from one DIRECTV solution to the other ?

If so, would you share your experience from all aspects (i.e. transition path, equipment requirements, quality of service, cost, etc.) ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If you signup for Dtv Stream make sure to use a new email address. That's the biggest issue I've seen. If you use the same email you used with Dtv Satellite, there is going to be a problem logging into stream. If you like having a set top box for a cable/satellite experience get the Dtv stream box. I have one and have also used the apps. Their box is the best experience.

Thank you for the response.

One of my biggest issues with the satellite service has been the use of the boxes and all that entails for a 4 unit setup in our home. I was hoping to move away from that requirement but if it truly is the better experience, I guess it would be worth it.

Do you utilize any additional streaming such as Fire sticks ?

Thanks again for the feedback.

The Dtv Stream box is only 8 x 8 inches it is really small. I have tried my firestick with it and use my Android tv box with the app sideloaded as a backup plan but the apps are no where as good as having the box and remote. U can't change channels via number with the apps. The box/remote also has buttons to get directly to the guide, dvr recordings, previous channel---the apps don't have those. FF and rewind is more seamless with their box as well. The apps are clunky when it comes to ff/rewind.

We recently migrated from DirecTV Satellite to DirecTV Stream and have been very happy with the Stream service. I used a different email address for my new DirecTV Stream account so that I could compare it with the satellite equipment before canceling. Two of our TV have DirecTV Stream boxes (C71K) and the rest are using Rokus. The DirecTV Stream boxes can actually use your existing satellite remotes and the functionality is very similar. Roku's remote is a bit more limited (no direct channel number entry, for example). Video quality is the same. Response time and streaming quality with our 1Gig fiber internet has been great. And since I don't need to pay for each box, I'm saving nearly $100 each month. You won't be disappointed.

I went from DTV Satellite to YTTV. I then went to DTV Stream. The box has made the change almost seamless and I am one of the older people on here. I love being able to go to the direct channel and the recording, fast Forward, reversing and stopping on a dime in the Video has been great. My wife says that this is the best and thats a lot from her. I like litz have 2 of my tvs using apple tv and DTVS apps and it is no comparision to the box, just a way better experience with the box. If you can afford it get the DTVS boxes.

The only problem using the DIRECTV stream box is, it has developed a lag when you change channels. When I go to the MLB channel there is always a scroll across the bottom, there’s about a 10 second lag before the picture clears and looks good. When I change channels and go back I get the same behavior. I also get this on other channels. They don’t look bad but it takes about 10 seconds for the stream to clear and present a really good picture. I’ve contacted Direct TV about this, and they claim they are unaware of any such issue, which I find extremely hard to believe. I had the boxes about a year now and they didn’t do this at first so I think it’s something to do with the recent update/Codec they’ve installed on their boxes.

I've had a Dtv Stream box for 8 months and there is never an issue with picture quality. Picture is always clear even when changing channels. Sounds like your internet is the issue.

Actually it’s not my Internet. When I stream DIRECTV through the app on Apple TV or Amazon fire stick it works flawlessly. When I use the DIRECTV streaming box, I get the judder for about 10 seconds then it clears up and the picture is perfect. I have 500mbps Internet through Cox, and it’s absolutely flawless on every streaming device using the app, with the exception of the DIRECTV box. So it sounds to me like it’s not my Internet.

Sounds like you may need to replace your DirecTV Stream box.

How is the box connected to your home network? Ethernet or WiFi?

I’ve tried several boxes.  I’ve hooked up via hardwire with Ethernet, I’ve tried Wi-Fi 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz, and it still does it. However if I use the app with my Apple TV or Fire Stick it works perfectly. However, when I use the app with DTV proprietary box or my  Roku, I have the same issue.

Is there anyway for me to post a short video clip of the issue?

There's no way to post a video in this forum. You can post it on YouTube and provide us a link to view it.

Here's the experience. There is no such thing as migrating over. You have to call in, and cancel your satellite, in which case they almost always tell you "we can't cancel until the end of your next billing cycle, which means, we're going to charge you in advance for another month of service, even though you wont be using it.

Then  in order to get your money back, you'll have to call us, speak to some guy name Gary in New Delhi, and spend 40 minutes of your life explaining to him why you don't owe what they charged your for.

After you put in a cancel order for the satellite, you should be  able  to order stream. You will be charged up front for the streaming service, so  now  you are out of pocket the first month of streaming as well as the billed in advance amount from your previous  satellite service which you are no longer using.

Nothing could be easier.
