Number of remotes that can be paired?

How many  DirectTV Stream remotes can be paired at the same time? I can not seem to get a third one to work (it will pair on other DirecTV stream boxes so the remote seems fine). If it is two, why does the box not just tell you that when you try to pair it? It goes though all of the motions, but fails after the animated on screen graphic of it "transmitting".

Hello. We're ready to help you understand how paired control remotes work. Let us know your device model.

Well, that is a worthless answer. I know how to pair them since I have paired two on this box and have 5 other boxes that I have paired remotes to.

Now perhaps you can answer the question I actually asked - how many DirecTV remotes can be paired the the stream box?

Thanks. I wonder why it won't fully pair (pair and program) Actually it does seem to do the initial pairing part, but won't "program" to control my TV.  It fails at that part and then locks up forcing me to unpair it (using the remote's keys).  But it will pair and program with another box (with the same model TV).  The two other remotes that are paired and "programmed" work fine.

At one point I believe that you were only able to pair 2 - if @Ludwick577 can pair 3, perhaps a change was made that doesn't work correctly on all (perhaps older?) units.  You could try asking Support, but the likelihood of getting a useful answer there isn't statistically higher than getting one from DIRECTVhelp reps.  Maybe ask on the Facebook or Twitter feeds (links at the bottom of this page)?  Some people claim that the reps that respond there are more helpful for questions like this.

I may have used the wrong term initially when I say "pair". Because it does pair enough to operate the box functions. What it won't do it "program" to operate the TV.  I don't recall the exact wording of the error but it says something like "Unable to program, remote. It can still be used for some functions" Or something like that. Then the next time I press the volume up button on the remote it will ask me if I want to program the remote to operate the TV (again) - which fails. I tried doing it through the menu system too without luck. The remote is on the same firmware as the others. The boxes are all up to date too.

In case anyone is wondering, I have a large room and I would like to have multiple remotes within easy reach. Two are ok, but a third would be great.

Have you tried to restart your box---or red button reset it? Mine does 3 fine--including my tv functions

Yes, restarted like a dozen times.  But thanks for letting me know you have 3 working.

I have had as many as 4 programed...but all of a sudden only two will program.

Not to worry,  I got all four programed...took a little,  a reset and get Bluetooth to reset,  but all is fine now.
