Setting up Home Network

So when I have more than 2 devices at home streaming Directv Stream I get an error saying too many streams.  I’m paying for the 3 simultaneous streams and it looks like at my home network I should have much more than that allowed.

When I do a search I see this:

Connected to your home network

Streaming from your home network? You don’t have to do a thing. Just sign in to the DIRECTV STREAM app from any mobile or TV device connected to your home network.

Not sure if your device is connected to your home network? Check the connection:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Preferences and then Location Settings.
  3. Check your Home Location. If you see:
    • Connected, your device is connected to your home network.
    • Not connected, your device isn’t connected to your home network

I do not see that option anywhere.  Location settings is either ON or OFF.  Nothing about HOME location.  Not on my Directv Stream device.  Not on my iPad or iPhone app.  Not on my FireTV or my AppleTV.  Can someone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Okey Dokey!

I made a new account…new email address.  Signed up for basically the same package…

logged out on my stream device…logged in with the NEW account…Voila!!!  Home Network is an option.

This is exactly the setup I need as all our TV’s at home a directv Stream device.  Thanks again for all the help.

Seems the long and shot of it is the old accounts cause all kids of headaches.  In fact if I ever went to My Subscription on the old account it would just say it could not be displayed and to visit the website for more info.  Now it displays my sub info.

Thanks!

It should be on your DIRECTV STREAM box under Settings, Preferences, Location Settings, and there you will see Home Location and show your IP Address that is considered your Home network.

Check this additional article https://www.directv.com/support/stream/article/KM1433086/ in case you need to setup a New Home Location

Those settings are on for the DirecTV Stream box. The "Home" location is not used on other streaming devices.

I’m not seeing those options.  For some reason the website isn’t letting me upload my picture I took but those options are not what I see.  I’m wondering if it’s cause I have a grandfathered ATT TV account.  I never left the Gotta Have it package.

As I posted - the "Home" location is only available when using the DirecTV Stream box. That's what it was designed for. Contact support as discuss your issue with a support rep. I also am grandfathered with 3 streams. They are all working fine. Support may be able to clear your account and make the 3rd stream active. Been a lot of issues around the number of streams.

I am using a direct stream device.  Those are not the options I am seeing.  I would upload the picture showing my options but I have tried on 4 different devices and I cannot upload pictures to this forum today for some reason.

Same here for a few days. Which box do you have? Is it from the beta testing? 200 or 400 model?

Correct.  The 400 from the beta testing.  I was told I cannot purchase the “official” new box with my grandfathered account.  Spent many hours with many reps who all said I could purchase it and at the end said I cannot because of my account.  Could you buy one with your grandfathered account?

You sure it's the 400? I thought those came out after the beta testing. I have 2 of the 200's. Furthermore, I don't think your issue is with the home setting, but with the grandfathered account at 3 streams. You need to talk to a rep and clear the counter.

These older accounts have been an issue. You are sure you are not connected somewhere else, right?

Also, right on not being able to get newer boxes with our older accounts. I basically have canned the boxes for Roku or Fire Sticks.

I have 200 and 400.  Neither show that menu.  I’ll probably call customer service when I’m home at the device.

I’m fine using alternate devices to stream as well but my wife likes the similarity of her old cable box…what can I say!

The 200's have just gotten very slow. I was never happy with the proprietary box that requires you to have an active account just to get to other apps within the DirecTV Stream app. Although their documentation says that you can still use the box for other apps if you do not subscribe to DirecTV Stream, I was never able to know how to access those apps if you could not load the DirecTV Stream app. No device home like other devices.

It looks to me like the only difference between the gotta have it and the new go big that starz is not included.  Which I never watch anyways.  I may just move to a new package if it clears things up.

If you change package, you lose your grandfathered pricing discount.

Yeah…lost that grandfathered pricing when I upgraded to 5g with some slimey fine print.  So the prices would be the same.

30 minutes so far working on the phone with a customer service rep.  Ridiculous.  I’m telling her that after 2 streams I get an error.  So says I need to uninstall DirecTV from every device I every installed it on.  Nope.

So then I explain that I cannot set a home network.  There is no option.  So she tells me I need to set the home network.  Sheesh.

Just needed to vent.
