Why does DirecTV Stream not offer separate User Profiles?

Why do all of my family's recordings have to be mixed together? Why do we have to share a "Favorites" list of favorite channels when we don't like or watch the same channels? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Youtube... all of these streaming services offer user profiles. So why does the most expensive out of all of those streaming services force the whole family to share one profile? It's like whoever makes your app is stuck in the early 2000s Cable DVR box mindset and can't think outside of that outdated paradigm.

They just have not implemented profiles. No one here knows if they will or not. Sure, we would all like to have them but until they do, you will just have to live with it. If you have to have them, then just go with another service.

It makes one question if the people in charge are in the least bit serious about growing this service when really low level features such as this haven't been implemented. It smacks of pure amateur hour that would embarrass any dedicated employee getting a salary.

By not offering profiles it prevents subscribers from sharing with others. Sharing of services have been hurting streaming service from growing their subscriber base for years. I assume that this has possibly impacted them from offering profiles.

Would be excellent to have the DVR have separate profiles for family members.

Well they don't. So we all just need to move on. It's not going to happen anytime soon.

bcbsncjlj,

Seriously guy, haven't you commented more than enough!

You move on. You change your service.
Let people speak here. And STFU.

Seriously to you - it's not going to happen rather you like the comment or not. You need to move on and seek something else! You are only speaking to other subscribers here. Tone down your remark and act a little more professional.

This is a public forum. So anyone can post their knoweledge or opinion on here, regardless if you like the info or not. The point remains that if these are features important to you then changing service is your option and everything points to this not change (at least any time soon).

Though answers may have been blunt, they have been polite with the intent to help. You order to let others speak but then tell somone not to, and in a toxic manner which would not be in line with the forum rules. I would highly suggest reeling that in as such toxicity is not allowed in the forum.

I posted my comment here because I'm not sure if DirecTV staff are like AT&T staff (who regularly monitor their forum).

Well it doesn't matter what the staff are like, but which service you are posting about. If you are posting in the DirecTV forum about AT&T equipment or service then that will not be productive.

Official responses in either forum can happen, but not guaranteed. They are a small staff that is only supplementary to customer support. As such the majority of responses you get will be from other customers, and the occasional employee on their personal time (off-the-clock).

More independent options like profiles would be nice. AT&T went to a more all-in-one approach, namely the Genie-2 (HS17) which only allows clients. That meant it wasn't even one DVR library per TV anymore but a single one for the entire household. It is my hope the new co-owner will innovate boxes to be more customer friendly in the future. And I certainly do hope their integrating into DirecTV management goes a lot better than when AT&T acquired DirecTV.

DirecTV execs / staff / devs are either the laziest or most incompetent of all streaming platforms.

As a software architect of the last 2 decades, I can honestly say that the multiple user profiles technology is not difficult to implement and not implementing it has nothing to do with preventing account sharing — it's sheer incompetence at this point, when every other successful platform has it.

If you don't know how to georestrict your app by ip address and location, maybe you shouldn't be in this business. Yea, you can still use VPN to get around that, but it's a step in the right direction.

Not implementing multiple user profiles so each family member can have their own customized TV viewing experience is beyond stupidity.

@dragosven

Agreed that user profiles are a big need for the streaming services. Hoping with the dust finally settling from the new co-owner taking over that it receives higher priority.

I know they have worked on updates here and there in the last year, so curious to see if anything happens later this year (or at least some info on what direction they are taking these features).

If you feel you can do it better and show them up, then by all means. Get employed by them and get to work. Would be more productive then posting in a thread from 2022.
