Autopay and Paperless Discount

We have had DTV since 2004 in both home and RV. Our latest home account started in 2017 and we immediately enrolled in Autopay. A month or so later, after getting a paper bill, we enrolled in Paperless. I have asked over the years about discounts and never received a well-reasoned answer. Today I noticed no discount in our itemized bill. So I talked to both a CS rep and a Loyalty rep. They said DTV policy is you have to sign up within 30 days of account start to get the discount(s). Which means I have lost at least $1,000 in discounts even though I brought up the issue several times in the past. The Loyalty Rep today offered me a Visa gift card but no future discounts either.

An online search (AI result) says I should able to sign up now and start getting a discount. Has anyone else run into this? I am close to calling DTV Hqs in El Segundo, CA to have a chat with the VP for Customer Relations. If this is really the policy, it is definitely not customer-friendly.

  Thank You.

DirecTV intro offers commonly have that $10 discount for the first 24 months. As you've seen it requires signing up for both autopay and paperless billing, not just one or the other. It is not a forever discount. That 30 day sign up is essentially your first billing period, so yes once you were in the next bill cycle than you can no longer claim it as part of your intro special.

Getting a visa gift card was fortunate as DirecTV has no obligation to ever provide you a discount. Pay TV is a luxury service, so if you want it you pay for it. During AT&T's time of owning DirecTV, they did an overall financial review and determined that too much had been given out in discounts than would be reasonable for the business. So they practically stopped them for a while, outside of into specials. At this point sometimes you might find you qualify for a discount as they have come back a bit, but those are small limited perks.

In the end it is up to DirecTV what discounts they offer and when, or if they offer a discount at all. If you're not happy with the cost of service it is up to you as a consumer to review your services and adjust accordingly. Just a realistic perspective as another consumer.

Thanks for your loyalty @custerhank. To qualify for the discount, customers must enroll in both AutoPay and Paperless Billing using a valid email address within 30 days of TV activation. Additionally, join our DIRECTV PERKS program to earn tokens for exclusive rewards. Visit https://spr.ly/61217hE9Wd to see what is available to you. John, DIRECTV Community Team
