You'll need to call DirecTV to cancel. See phone number below. Only newer equipment needs to be returned. Let us know the model numbers of your DirecTV boxes and we can advise. Newer equipment can be dropped off at a UPS or FedEx shipping center and they'll ship it back. Older equipment can be recycled. Note that your service will end with the end of your billing period. They don't pro-rate your bill.

Like most companies, you call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel". That routes you to their retention/cancellation department.
Be prepared that the agent will be required to find out why you are canceling and see if they can offer an option to retain your business. May have another attempt depending on the reasons the 1st offer was rejected. If offers do not work for you, then stay firm but polite with cancellation.
Check your service dates, not the bill date (when it produces) or the date it is due to be paid by (or autopay date). Your service, including billing, is still valid through the end of your service month. There is no proration.
If you have a service agreement, it is valued at $20 for each month remaining. ECF is billed all at once on the final bill.
Returnable receiver/client boxes are taken to a participating FedEx or The UPS Store for your free return. Keep receipt showing they took possession. What are the models of each box you have?
