DirecTV Customer Service Scam?

I have not been able to login to my DirecTV account for a few weeks now so, I figured I would give customer support a call to see if they could help me out.  I went to DirecTV's website and called the following number, 800-531-5000, and while on the phone with the person, my computer stopped working so, I had to end the call. I told the individual it would take me about 15 minutes, and the customer support guy said they would call me back in 15 minutes on the phone I was using to continue with the support call.

The call came back as 209-550-6110, and it was the same guy I was talking to from the official DirecTV number. The individual did help resolve the issue, and after he was done, I did not give him any information that was beyond what I had given DirecTV in support calls in the past. However, what concerns me about the call is that the customer service guy said, "He was going to check my WiFi.” I did not give him our password, but what bothers me, and I am not sure, is whether the customer support guy placed some form of tracking software on our modem.  What really concerns me though, is after I hung up on the guy, I looked at the 209-550-6110 number, and online it says it is a scam number pretending to be DirecTV.

Do I need to get my modem changed now? If this really ends up being a scam, AT&T has a real problem with its customer support, as whoever they hired is doing legit customer service and scamming people too.

Please let me know what you think I should do.

The 5000 number is DirecTV's customer service number.

Callbacks generally don't happen, so coming from that other number does seem suspicious. I would report this to DirecTV by calling their official number (ask to speak to a supervisor), or if an official forum support member hops into the thread they might send you a DM to clarify specifics.

Agents at DirecTV have absolutely no way to check your WiFi. They can walk you through setting up the WiFi from the DirecTV box to your router, but have no access to the router itself. And satellite service is one-way so the box cannot send them that information back. So as long as you didn't tell them your router's name and password, you should be fine there.

That does not have anything to do with AT&T support as they sold DirecTV. Transaction completed last year.

Thank you for the information. I have been a little worried for the past several hours, where I have been doing a lot of scans to see if malware can be found.
