DIRECTV Reported Fraudulent Account To My Credit

I closely monitor my credit and do not have, nor have I ever had, a DIRECTV account. In mid-December, I received a notification from Credit Karma indicating that a DIRECTV account, fraudulently opened using my personal information, had been sent to collections.

I contacted the collection agency and was informed that the account was created for a residence in Arkansas—a state with which I have never had any association. The agency attempted to negotiate a payoff despite my clear assertion that the account was fraudulent.

I immediately contacted DIRECTV’s fraud department and completed all required steps, including filing a police report, submitting an affidavit, and providing supporting documentation. To date, I have received no substantive response. I have also contacted DIRECTV directly on multiple occasions and emailed their fraud department repeatedly, with no acknowledgment or meaningful effort to resolve this matter.

In addition, I have filed a fraud report with the Federal Trade Commission. It is deeply concerning that a company can allow a fraudulent account to be reported to credit bureaus without properly verifying the identity or account ownership. DIRECTV’s lack of responsiveness reflects a failure to meet its obligation to protect consumer personal information and to promptly correct fraudulent reporting.

John provided absolutely no assistance.  It seems as though DIRECTV has no interest is resolving this issue.

Can you provide the timeframe provided?  Over the past week I have been told by several representatives that I would receive a phone call however, said phone call has not been received.

With what you submitted was that through www.directv.com/notmyaccount ? Just to make sure it routed correctly.

At this point even with delays from the holidays it seems enough time has passed to get an update. Unless you've gotten further info from the forum help team since you last posted, the next step would be a BBB complaint. That forwards the issue up to DirecTV's corporate level, usually resulting in contact from their "Office of the President" within a few business days.

(There have been access issues with forum access in the last month. That may have resulted in communication problems as well with the DM you were waiting on. As of today we are seeing some things fixed)
