Fox Local missing 3 1/2 years
Dear DirecTV,
If the issue with ESPN Unlimited seemingly cannot be fixed, and I've gotten none of the promised notification that is has, for months, then the issue of a missing Fox Local Channel is most frustrating.
I understand carriage fees and the 'fights' you guys get into. I know the process. I know the issues. But THREE AND A HALF YEARS???? Come on, how bad of a negotiator are you?
No Super Bowl. No Sunday Football. No baseball at times. NO COLLEGE FOOTBALL on Fox.
And NOW? NO WORLD CUP!! None. Nada.
Someone somewhere needs to be taken out into the parking lot and 'talked to'.
Guess another letter to the FCC is in order.
PLEASE! Just swallow hard and fix this. Mission Broadcasting is not our problem, it's yours. Figure it out.
Today.

Unfortunately, Mission Broadcasting stations have remained unavailable to our customers since October 2022 despite our ongoing efforts to work with them. We know it's frustrating. We look forward to future talks to bring them back on terms that make sense for our customers.

Just give in already!
Or fi d an alternative for us.
Or give massive credit at least.
Not hard.

The issue is that if DirecTV (or any other TV provider) caves to the higher carriage rates, then that gets added to our bills. And that affects all customers, not just where you live, since locals aren't itemized per area but flat rate over the entire service.
Many of us are on the other side where our view is why should we keep paying more for local channels, that we can get free over-the-air (OTA) with an antenna, and in some cases locals we aren't authorized anyway because not our viewing area.
I went to pay TV for what my locals couldn't provide. So I certainly don't want to pay more for them.
Saying "not hard" suggests you do not fully understand the situation. Perhaps increase your bill to make up for the rest of us who don't want to pay more for locals?
And they are not permitted to give you an alternative. Locals lobbied congress so you can only be provided what is in your direct market area (DMA). So by those Federal regulations, no alternative. Either plug in a regular antenna or go with a provider that current carries those locals (understanding that can change at any time of course).

Thanks for the help, ma'am.
I have an OTA antenna. I live in an area where I can't get the local FOX signal OTA. That's WHY I have satellite! Duh.
TV is in chaos. I know the reasons, and I understand all the finances. But 3 1/2 years? For the 2nd main sports channel? That tells me they aren't trying.
Everyone doesn't live in downtown Metropolis.
Also, I'm paying for locals and don't get them. You are paying for them and get them even if you don't want them. So who's getting screwed here?

You are getting locals, just not all the ones you want. As long as you get a single local channel, you get what you pay for. If you had no locals at all, then you would have a no-locals version of the package which would cost lower.
If an OTA antenna cannot get the channels you want, that is unfortunate. But there are alternatives.
There is no guaranteed timeframe for success. Being 2, 5, or a decade does not mean they "aren't trying". Claiming that is not facts but you are upset they aren't giving you that channel. And channel negotiations are a two-way street. Have you not considered that Mission is part of this and they will not agree unless the TV provider and we customers cave to their demands? By your reasoning, Mission isn't trying at all either as they haven't agreed to a deal.
If the channel is so important to you than complain to Mission that you want a better deal offered to TV providers. Doubt it will do anything, but it is an option. Or just get a provider that has that local for the time being. Neither Mission or DirecTV have any obligation provide you that channel. So in the end it depends how bad you want it on what options you go with.
Also there is no "Sir" or "Ma'am" mentioned in the thread, so not sure where that came from.

You failed Logic 101. But you should get a stipend from DirecTV.
I'm on here to talk to DirecTV, not you. You seem to have a lot of complaints yourself. Why don't you stay out of mine.

Yes I have complaints. I do not like locals increasing costs year after year, because naturally no company can/will absorb the cost and some has to be passed on the customer (that would be all of us). I also do not like the restrictive equipment direction AT&T was taking when they bought DirecTV (fortunately they have sold it off so hoping that will see improvement, but not holding my breath).
Leave the insults at home. I have responded logically, it just doesn't give you the answer you want. In the end you might just have to accept that DirecTV and Mission (the owner of your local affiliate station) are not going to get an agreement anytime soon and will have to consider your options on what is most important to you.

Isn't part of the Mission problem something about them being owned by another company? I seem to remember a different company also being involved somehow.

@baseballisback
They are affiliated, partnered, or whatever the correct term is with Nexstar. Thank you, I knew there was something special about Mission but it had been so long that I was drawing a blank.
Well I hope that info gives the OP a bit of light for a realistic perspective on the situation. It actually is hard for DirecTV to comply with their wishes (contrary to their claim) because of that, in addition to what has already been mentioned.
But if they think that this is so easy and any TV provider can just swallow and take the hit, well perhaps they should reach out and see if they can get employed if they are so certain they know better how the entire industry works than those who actual deal with it.
To be clear, nothing against their frustration on them eventually (hopefully) getting the channel they want. Just always annoyed with the "me me" mentality and not recognizing the real world doesn't work like that.
