Fraud for Direct Tv to turn service on at a customer’s old address & bill them

I moved over a year ago and voluntarily suspended my account for six months.  I called to extend because I still did not have my own place to live and needed more time.  They refused to give me additional time and deactivated my service at my old address and I told them not to turn it on because someone else moved to that address.  Now they are harassing me to pay for service at my old address & they sent the balance to collections.  I told them that they cannot legally turn my service at my previous address and not give me additional time on the voluntary suspension of my account.  I talked to a supervisor back in October 2025 & she told me that my account would be 0 put and I didn’t have to return the equipment.  I am pissssd because this is not right. I owe them nothing!!!!!!!! I will never use them again because the company is FRAIUD

Per the user agreement, discussions of legal matters aren't allowed on the forums. Your post has been edited.

It's highly unlikely that someone from DirecTV will see your message as this is primarily a customer-to-customer forum.

Suspension limit is up to 6 months. At the end of that it reinstates because you cannot suspend indefinitely. They have no obligation to give you additional time like you claim.

If once the suspension is over you still are not ready to place a movers order, then canceling is your option, but you have to call them to do so.

Per the Terms of Service, cancellation goes through at the end of the service month. It is not prorated, so you would have charges from the day the service was turned back on to the end of the service month that you are responsible for (provided you called to cancel otherwise service and billing would continue into the next month of course). Moving does not make an exception to this as DirecTV is a nationwide service (it is signal to essentially the entire country, not hardline which may be select areas).

In the end this isn't fraud. There is no rule they have to suspend longer just because you say so. Suspension is just a temporary hold on the account with the expectation service will continue. If that doesn't work, then it is your responsibility to call and cancel at that time.

Sorry but the way you wanted this to work is not how it actually works.
