Regional sports fee
I keep noticing a regional sports fee on my Bill! We watch zero sports, why should we have to pay a sports fee?

Everyone who has the Choice or above channel package pays the RSN fee so you have to lower your package to not pay it.

You will be billed the RSN fee like everyone else. That is the reality. Agent made a mistake saying otherwise. At most they would only provide you a temporary promotion for the bad info, but they will not adjust it permanently. The only way to get rid of the fee is to change to a package that does not have RSNs. Currently the only packages that don't have RSNs are Family, Select, and Entertainment.
You may not like it and believe that what someone says is the unchanging truth, but this is the actual reality. Regardless if agent quote was on purpose or an honest mistake, the offer did not exist. So there is no valid offer to honor.

If i worked for a company and an employee of mine told a customer that. I would honor it because its not the customers fault my employee lied.

Companies do not honor everything agents say. Some have a bad day and say something out of frustration, others make an honest mistake, and then some do it on purpose. With millions of customers and thousands of agents, if they honored every single misspeak of an agent then companies would go out of business.
This is where the Terms of Service matter. No matter what is said or "promised", it is the paperwork that makes the final decision. Since the RSN fee is MANDATORY for all customers in Choice or above, regulated to address like tax, then it is not removable.
An agent who gives bad info would be retrained or have their employment terminated depending on the exact circumstances. In some cases they 'might' give a temporary adjustment as a courtesy, but there is no obligation to do so.
You either continue with a package that is subject to the RSN fee, change to one that doesn't have RSNs to get rid of the fee (Family, Select, Entertainment), or or cancel. Though if you choose the last option, go to antenna TV as other TV providers still have the RSN fee just hidden in other costs (similar to how DirecTV had it years ago).
So if an employee of yours was mad and promised, say the "millionth" customer, they won a free house (yours) and the customer believed it, would you then give them your house to honor what they were told? Certainly an extreme, highly likely scenario, but the principal is the same. If you honored all mistakes, or any lies of employees, you would go broke. This is how real life works. What you want seems to be unrealistic expectations shown in TV shows from the 60s or earlier that don't mirror real life.
So cancel as you said you would do a year ago. Back then we advised you verify the paperwork and not just go by what a sales person (especially a 3rd party in Wal-Mart) said. Perhaps now you will be more diligent in protecting yourself instead of blindly following what you are told and expecting that to be how reality works.
