2 dvrs R22's

I have 2 DTV DVRs (one new, one I've been using for several years).  I'm pretty sure the one I've been using is on it's way out (each time it runs a self check I have less and less free space).  So, what I'd like to do is set up the new dvr, attach to the satellite as well as a HDMI to the tv and start recording show (and watching a few of the daytime ones). What I'd also like to do is hook up the old dvr just to the tv with an HDMI cable and watch the shows I have recorded before it dies.  1. would that work? 2. what do I need to tell DTV as far as activating the new DVR?  3. if the old DVR is deactivated, will it still work for playback?  and 4. what would be the trick to control 1 dvr at a time with the remote, can I just cover the front with my hand so the one I don't want reacting doesn't get the signal?

@shannon02  To get the 3 4k channels that dtv currently offers, yes.  Just for the tv to get a feed through the hd dvr we had, no.  That's all I needed, the 4k tv to work with the equipment we had.  Completely possible without an upgrade.

Told DTV I needed a Connected Home Adapter, the woman I was chatting with, immediately told me I needed a mini genie.  NO, I need a Connected Home Adapter.  Oh, ok, we'll send you one.  Got the package today with an AC adapter.  Considering there is no way to put this between the wall and the coax input, I'm assuming they screwed up? Now she is ordering a swim power adapter, which I already have on the r22.  Is that what I need on the genie cuz that's what she's telling me.  One on the genie, one on the r22.

@shannon02 Yes, beginning to believe that.  Apparently the connected home adapter (at least by that name) is no longer available in their system.  The one you posted is hardwired (router is no where near genie) so is there a wireless one?

You connect it to the coax that goes to the back of the R22, the Genie puts the internet onto the coax when it is connected to the internet either hardwired or with WiFi.

But there is an ethernet cable that they say connects to the router.

  • This third generation Cinema Connection Kit allows a DIRECTV system to connect to a router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Great for using right behind a router to pump internet over coax for a Whole Home DVR or Connected Home Setup This unit will connect to your router via an Ethernet cable, and then into an open port on one of your sws splitters to get the internet into the coaxial cable for the entire system.

That is called a DECA BB and it is what is needed to hard wire the SWM system to the internet but you don't need it as that is what the Genie is doing.  All you need to do is disconnect the coax from the back of the R22 and connect it to the Connected Home Adapter then connect the whip end to the R22, then connect the Ethernet cable to the CHA and the Ethernet port on the R22.

So when I tell them a need a whole home connector and they don't know (Edited per community guidelines) I'm talking about, I should be asking for a deca bb?

A DECA BB comes with a power supply that you don't need so you can get one if you want.  DTV considers it as a tech install only.

chatted with tech support (after asking for tech support and getting someone in billing) and he said no problem when I said I needed a whole home connector.  What he ordered was a SWiM connector, which, I already have on the r22.  Guessing that's not right either, hunh?

Not sure what you are calling a SWM connector.

Per the order confirmation from dtv

Qty Description
1 SWiM Power Supply

Per one of your responses.  "SWM= Single Wire Multi Switch used to combine the tuners and the internet onto one coax as originally DTV needed a separate coax from the dish for each tuner."
I currently have a "SWiM stand-alone swm8/swm16 module only" connected to the r22

@shannon02 at this point the OP should just order the DECA BB from Amazon or another alternative website. Since DIRECTV can't seem to get it right, not worth the hassle to continue wasting time with them since they clearly keep ordering the OP the wrong supplies.
