Black and white screen
I have a new tv and a new direct TV installation. It was been working for two weeks without an issue. Suddenly when we turned on the TV tonight we have nothing but black and white on all channels. I tried a new HDMI cable and tried powering down the box and also tried the reset button on the box. I also tried another HDMI input on the TV, no change.

weird, sounds like HDCP protection or some issue with your satellite signal. Are you getting any error codes on the receiver?

It could be the TV. I think you need to connect your receiver to a different tv to determine whether it’s a receiver or tv issue.

I get color on the TV when I switch to look at different TV options such as netflicks and such. I am not seeing any error codes on the box. The direct TV receiver has a steady blue light.

I hate to say it, but it seems that the capacitors of the regular control board of your TV has been fried from temperature differential conditions. There are videos of people on YouTube who take apart the TV, remove the board, and put it in an oven with certain temperature criteria in order to get the capacitors working again. Lemme guess, you have an LG TV?

The TV is a Philips and is only two weeks old. The color on the TV will come up when switching to other options, such as netflix, youtube and other options.

Does it still have a warranty? If there are color imperfections, let the original company (Best Buy, Walmart, Sam's Club, etc.) know about the issue and they will get it fixed ASAP.

The color is fine.... I can watch DVDs and other input TV with full color, but the direct TV box is only projecting the picture in black and white.

Hey @bmcmahon We are happy to help.
Let's trying a basic troubleshooting, following these steps:
Check your TV input
1. Turn your TV and receiver off and back on.
2. On a genie remote, press and hold ENTER button for three seconds to cycle through TV inputs ( component, HDMI, etc) until you see a picture. ( On Universal remote, press TV input to cycle to cycle through.)
3. If nothing happens when you press the button, try programing your DIRECTV remote to control your TV input and try again.
4. If you're still having issues, check cable used to connect your receiver to your TV.
In case the issue persist, reset your receiver. Press the red reset button which is located on the side of most DIRECTV receivers on inside the access card door on the front panel. Wait for your receiver to reboot.
If your receiver doesn't have a red reset button:
1. Unplug the receiver's power cord from the electrical outlet.
2. Wait 15 seconds then plug it back it.
3. Press POWER on the front panel of your receiver and wait for your receiver to reboot.
Let us know how it goes, we will be here for you.

Do you another video source with an HDMI output that you can connect to that TV? That will help you determine if it's a TV issue or a DirecTV box issue. What DVR/Receiver model number?

Ok so different HDMI cable and port on the TV have no change. And those work with other devices so most likely an issue with the DirecTV box itself.
What model is the DirecTV box?
Verified coax is finger tight?
Red button reset or even unplug power for a minute?
If you have another DirecTV box, I would try it on that TV. Or if you have another TV to try the DirecTV box on it.

I think a few more questions would have been appropriate before jumping to suggesting they take apart their TV and put parts in the oven. And the quick assumption it was an LG TV was surprising as well.
Seems the DirecTV box is the only device having the problem, which indicates it is most likely not the TV set itself. Though not impossible a TV issue might only affect DirecTV equipment vs the rest of the equipment, it is certainly has better odds being the DirecTV box itself at this point.
Lack of information does not make a good solution.

@Juniper The OP really hasn’t confirmed the use of other hdmi connected sources. They said “I can watch DVDs and other input TV with full color”. My DVD player is connected via component cables. Until they confirm a different hdmi source gets color as @litzdog911 suggested or connect the receiver to a different tv as I suggested, the tv is still a possibility.
