Can’t detect SWM I’ve never had

I have a model R22-200 DVR receiver. I had it hooked up to a RF modulator to mirror the image into another room. My RF Modulator went out and now the directv says it can’t detect SWM. I’ve never had SWM. My dish goes directly into my house and the line goes directly to my receiver. I’ve had it hooked up this way for years and it worked fine. What gives? We are in the middle of an ice storm. Could that have something to do with it?

You might need to repeat the Satellite Setup process and select the non-SWM option at the appropriate setup step.

I did as you suggested, it was set on SWM, the only other option was multi switch so I set it on that and it still couldn’t communicate with the satellite

If you don't have a SWM setup, then the correct setting is Multiswitch. What's the error message you get when it's set to Multiswitch?

Did you select mutiswitch first before selecting dish type?  The round dish will be obsolete when DTV finishes the MPEG2 SD channels shut down, you need to call DTV for the free swap offer to HD dish and receivers.

Is that R22 your only box? If not, you might be able to keep it depending on the models of your others. That is the special model that is MPEG-4 capable, but requires at least one H or HR model on the account to have that functionality.

Mentioning in case you have to do a MPEG swap or upgrade.

When I select multi switch it still says it can’t communicate with satellite. We were on the phone with support for about 30 minutes explaining that our setup never had a SWM. We’ve had it set like this for 10 years and didn’t change anything. We were just watching something on the DVR last night and the screen just went black. We reset the receiver and replaced the RF modulator and all of a sudden it don’t work anymore. The tech on the phone swears we need a SWM with that receiver. So I guess it’s a miracle box????? My guess is that there is ice or something messing with the dish or something inside the box just fried.

What dish do you have? Is it  the 18" round or something else?

What do you see when checking the satellite signal readings?

We have an oval hd dish. Not sure of the exact one. It was on the house when we moved in 3 years ago. I get all 0s when I look at the satellite settings.

No need to take this discussion private. The fact that you're seeing all 0s on the satellite readings is your main issue. Perhaps your dish moved slightly? Or you've got a loose/corroded coax cable between your dish and Receiver. It's probably time to call for a service visit.

I had the same issue!  They insisted I had one and I insisted I didn't.  Line comes directly into my house then into my receiver.  They had to send out a tech and he put one in.
