cck-w

Do  I need a dvr if I use a cck-w box or can I use a regular rcvr? An is there a monthly charge for using a cck-w?? The rcvr I have is an aftermarket one installed by a DTV tech.

There are no aftermarket receivers, DVRs, etc. for DirecTV. They are all made/contracted for by DirecTV, even if you acquired from a 3rd party. Their equipment is proprietary for the security of the satellite service.

The Cinema Connection Kit (CCK) is only for connecting your setup to your home internet by wireless for the optional On Demand service. It is not a receiver/DVR, but akin to a wireless network adapter. So is not a receiver/DVR.

What are the models of your DirecTV boxes? Best to verify what exactly you have.

If you only have 1 box and it is an H24, then the CCK-W is not worth it. On Demand requires a DVR as you need that hard drive you are downloading/recording to.

The CCK-W would be used for any regular HDDVR (HR20 thru HR24, or special R22) or 1st generation Genie DVR (HR34). If you have a 2nd gen Genie (HR44) or later setup then you don't need the CCK as it is built-in.
