Cheap Remote
My cheap remote doesn’t light up like my Dish remote did. Why? I was not asked if I wanted to see in the dark. I have the Satellite Choice package with 2 advanced DVR’s.
Now what???

You need to buy a DTV remote with a "B" in the model name. Examples RC71B,RC64B. DTV generally sends the non backlit remote unless you specify you want a backlit one, they are cheaper online.

I’ve tried 3 times to answer your question but am having no luck.
All 4 of my Dish remotes are lighted.
No one ever asked me if I wanted a lighted remote, of course I did. I’m 76 years old and can’t see in the dark yet!
I can’t find a numerically printed guide as all of them are alphabetical. Simple, right? DirecTV, Choice package, upgraded DVR’s,Print channels, simple right? Nope.
Also I guess my age is causing a problem since I needed a username and password for DirecTV, AT&T, the DTV forums, and so on and you would think I would have been consistent, wrong!
Sorry, bad first day with DirecTV.
Does it get better? Not unless I go back to start and be consistent with names and passwords. Many of my old passwords began with an @, not anymore, now trying. $ but they don’t seem to like $’s either.
I got 2 upgraded DVR’s and 2 whatever ones and I can’t see any of the remotes in a dim lighted room. I’ll use a flashlight. Should I have asked for a flashlight when placing my order? No one asked? Please don’t let this app ask for a UN or password to send this message.

So my new Gemini rc82v does not light up.
I've looked for a rc82vb or rc82bv, no hits. But amazon has a seller that says his are backlit. looking inside the remote, the part number is pretty weird; RC3773702/02BR
can anyone with a Gemini remote that lights up see what their number is inside?
Thanks, Greg

When you go to another provider never expect that everything is exactly the same. If backlighting was important to you, then that is something you ask about. Customer service reps and sales agents are not mind-readers.
As backlight remotes are not the standard remote, you will need to purchase a similar remote with 'B' in the model number. You can order directly from DirecTV, but online retailers tend to be cheaper (I expect because of bulk discount options to retailers).
What are the models of your "advanced" DVRs? (Unusual for a new customer to have multiple DVRs as AT&T pushed DirecTV to an all in one setup where there is only a single box that is the DVR itself). But if each box is truly a DVR then great, as that is a more dependable setup in my opinion.
Your programming package has no effect on your equipment. That is just the group of channels you get. If you were clarifying you have satellite service, understood. However if you meant that as part of the package name, there is no "Satellite Choice" as the package is just "Choice" (none of the packages have "Satellite" in the name).

Now I know, my remote is either a P19146-co3 or if I remove the batteries it’s a MG3-R35602

The model will start RC for remote control. The Gemini remote has a gentle white backlight. It has been reported to not be noticeable in a lit room and you need ample darkness. Apparently that was a change from earlier backlit remotes to prevent a washed out effect for the keys. If the DirecTV branded one doesn't suffice, you may need to see about a 3rd party universal backlit remote.
The "Gemini" (C71KW) is not a DVR. That for satellite service is a Client, similar to a Mini Genie. No Client has tuners or recording space, as all that is on the main box. Most likely you have the Genie-2 (HS17) which is a Headless Server tower that houses the DVR that all Clients use. This means you have one box that rules them all, instead of the dedication of independent DVRs (similar to the Hopper and Joey for Dish). Just a note, unlike the regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54), the Genie-2 does not allow other DVRs/receivers as it only permits Clients on the account.

RC82V is the model number for the Gemini remote, the manual says nothing about it being backlit and neither does that link DTVhelp sent. I assume the V is for voice.

Solid Signal review Gemini backlit remotes. Unfortunately couldn't find an exact model number.

Yep, found that, and discarded their data since they state all Gemini remotes are backlit.
Clearly they are wrong. So my estimation of the correctness of their site has gone down a notch.

Second time I have tried this post.
having a better second day with DirecTV.
My Gemini remote was lighting up, not in daylight but at night in a dark room it was lighted, not for long and very dim, but lighted
One of my Gemini remotes only turns off the DirecTV receiver but leaves the TV on. Same remote can not be used for Volume Up, the sound doesn’t change. ?
how can I print the program guide Numerically, not Alphabetically?
With Dish each of our 4 family members had a set of favorite channels. Each person had a set of 30 to 40 channels that could be easily used by that person. That persons favorite channels also showed only those channels in their program guide. Can DirecTV do that?

That could mean the remote is nor using the correct codes for that TV, you can try reprogramming it. AFAIK DTV still has 2 custom/favorite lists.

The article I read on Solid Signal did not say that all remotes were backlit. I get that saying the Gemini remote seems to imply that, but perhaps they didn't get their hands on other models. That or the backlight is so dim you haven't been in the correct lighting to see it. Their pdf blog of the HS17 is correct, but the video review had big errors, but they removed most of the wrong info (they still say has the exact same space as prior systems which is wrong since it is the only box with 2TB built-in).
Their pdf guide isn't programmed to sort numerically. It is just a simple list.
It is only 2 favorites lists per box. This is something that hasn't been touched in years. There are other improvements the equipment needs well before they give priority to adding additional favorite lists.
